Lisa Townsend Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2023.
Lisa Renee Stacey Townsend was born to Leon George Stacey and Marilyn Newell Stacey on September 2, 1960 in Mobile, AL. After a courageous six year battle with breast cancer, surrounded by family, Lisa received her wings to Heaven and peacefully flew into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lisa and her husband Derek met during her freshman year in high school, where she attended Spring HS while Derek attended Cy Fair HS. Even the distance could not keep them apart. They then both attended Lamar University together. After dating for a total of five years, Derek and Lisa married on August 15th, 1981, spending the next 43 years together.

Lisa became very active in the Delta Lambda chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority, serving as Pledge Trainer, then President of the chapter while at Lamar. She was an accountant with various companies in Beaumont, TX. The Lord blessed them with a baby boy, Derek Townsend II, in November, 1986. She decided God wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom for her son. Lisa and her sister, Winnie, opened a small gift shop called “Gifts from the Heart." They hand made door wreaths for new mothers, and sold other crafty items. Winnie had a small daughter too, Lauren, that allowed the sisters to swap off baby sitting duties, while still running their own small business together. After a move to Arlington, TX, Lisa and Derek moved to Tomball. She found many things to do outside her home. Lisa was a teacher of Children's Sunday School at Champion Forest Baptist Church for 8 years, involved with organized Bible studies, Precept Ministries, and others. She was a long-time member of the Christian Women's Club, where she became President, growing the club size for the Lord. She also served on Rosehill Christian School board for 6 years. Living just a few blocks from Tomball HS, their home became the football team's hang out headquarters prior to games. She loved every moment, and every kid that came to her house. She proudly served on the 2005 Project Prom Committee for her son's senior year. Lisa and Derek moved their church membership to First Baptist Church in Tomball shortly after D graduated from Tomball HS. Within 6 months of being there, she co-chaired the Greeting Ministry for the next 7 years.

All the while Lisa was very involved in the political process at the local, state, and national level. She loved this country. She ran her husband's campaign for local office, and has worked on many campaigns for others. She represented District 130 as a delegate to the Republican State Convention several times. Lisa was an original member of the Yellow Rose Republican Women's Club. She served in many different capacities, helping grow the club, but the position she received the most gratification from was President. She helped lead the club from medium to a large club classification.

Lisa loved the beach. It didn't matter which one, although the beaches along the Miracle Strip of Alabama/Florida coast were her favorite ones from childhood. She loved to travel throughout the US, and had opportunities to visit England and Mexico. Lisa loved to cook, and she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. They were blessed with three grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart.

Lisa was preceded in eternal rest by her mother Marilyn Newell Stacey, grandparents James Borie Newell and Winifred Spurlock Newell, Mr. Leon Gladden Stacey and Lillian McCary Stacey.  Lisa is survived by her father, Leon George Stacey Sr., her husband Derek Scott Townsend Sr., son Derek Scott Townsend II (Alex), grandsons Ryker James, Kason Scott, grand-daughter Charlotte Blake, brother Leon George Stacey Jr., sister Winnie Stacey, niece Lauren Alwazzan (Nathanael), grand-niece Dannah, grand-nephew Zaiyd, nephews Kaden Alwazzan and Easten Alwazzan, and many other uncles, cousins, and friends...all of whom she loved and who will miss her.

Mrs. Lisa was an amazing person to be around and always made everyone smile that she was with. My parents and I took a few trips with Lisa, Derek and Little Derek when I was younger and we always had a blast! She will be missed so much and I'm so thankful I was able to say goodbye before she left! I love you Mrs. Lisa, fly high, until we meet again.

How blessed I have been to share the role of “grandmother” with Lisa. Even though we had completely different upbringing’s across the country from each other we both shared not only the same birthdate but a profound love of God, family and community. I am so grateful that the love of our two children brought us into each other’s journey through life. I will carry you in my heart always each moment I spend with our grandchildren Lisa.

Derek, Little Derek, Alex, Winnie and family:
I just don’t have the words. I am so sorry for your loss but I’m shouting hallelujah that she’s not in any pain. She’s no longer suffering. I will not forget the pretty girl from high school journalism class or the pretty young woman who I was in Delta Zeta with at Lamar University. Even more, I will never forget the beautiful woman who fought the beast with courage and never once lost sight of God’s comfort. She was a wonderful lady who loved her husband, son, daughter-in-law and her precious grandchildren. Lisa: Live you bunches. I’ll see you again on the other side.
