LYALL, Lloyd H. Peacefully at Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, Lloyd in his 94th year. Loving husband Of Dea. Devoted father of John, Philip (Shelley), Peter (Teddi) and Susan (Tom Sansone). Proud grandpa to Jeremy, Jessica, Lloyd, Austin and Eric and great grandfather to Mae. Uncle to Pat, Hugh and John. Born in Manitoba, Lloyd spent his boyhood in Lockport, north of Winnipeg on the banks of the Red River, attending St. John's Boy's School in Winnipeg as a youth, then the University of Manitoba where he received a BSc. in Agriculture. After this he started work at the Experimental Farm in Ottawa. WWII took Lloyd to England and Holland where he served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as the leader of a convoy of supply and ammunition trucks, attaining the rank of Captain by the end of the war. In Holland he met the love of his life, Dea Vreede, whom he would later bring home to Canada and marry. Returning to school, he obtained an MSc. in genetics from the University of Minnesota after which he continued his career as a plant breeder at the Experimental Farm where he became Chief of Horticulture. For 50 years he and Dea lived happily in the house they built on the Rideau River in Manotick, where they helped establish the Manotick Tennis Club. A kind, generous man, he was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him. A special thanks to the staff at Orchardview Living Centre and the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre for their kind and exceptional dedicated care. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at Pinecrest Reception Centre (2500 Baseline Rd, Ottawa) from 2 to 4 pm. I am proud to say that Lloyd H. Lyall was my grandfather. He was not always a man of many words, but his razor-sharp wit made sure the people around him were laughing. I've learned a lot about my grandfather in recent weeks--things that make me feel even closer to him and to my grandmother, Dea. I will hold on tight to my many memories of him.

My most sincere condolences to Dea & all the Family on Lloyd's passing. I have many fond memories of Lloyd & Dea from our Tennis days in Manotick. God Bless you all.
