Lloyd Slusher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 1, 2025.
Lloyd E. Slusher, M.D., passed away on October 5, 2024, in Longview, Washington.

Lloyd was born on a farm in Butler County, Ohio, on November 18, 1938, the youngest of nine siblings. He pursued higher education at Miami University, earning his bachelor's degree, and went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School.

Following graduation, Lloyd began his medical career as a radiologist at the Youngstown Hospital Association and Associates in Radiology. In 1986, he embarked on private practice, founding Boardman X-ray. Demonstrating his dedication to advancing women's health, he later established the Breast Care Center and introduced a mobile mammography service, the Mammovan.

While pursuing his education and career, Lloyd was blessed with five wonderful children.

On June 20, 1987, Lloyd married Alice Roberts (née Scherl), beginning a new chapter filled with love and shared joys and challenges. After their marriage, they lived in Boardman, Ohio, for 25 years before relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 2011.

Lloyd had an endlessly curious mind and a fascination with many subjects, including robotics, space exploration, politics, travel, and medical advancements. He managed to check off many items from his "bucket list," such as taking a long-anticipated cruise to the Mediterranean. However, one dream he never achieved was experiencing space travel.

One of Lloyd's greatest passions was designing and building homes. Over his lifetime, he collaborated with contractors to create five homes, though sadly, he passed away just five days before moving into his final masterpiece.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; his brother Edward "Charlie" of Monroe, OH; children, Marilee Ann (the late Chip Laird) Smith Jr. of Manor; PA, Kathy Jo Slusher of Miramar, FL; John (Traca) Slusher of Daytona Beach; FL, Lloyd "Eric" (Joanne) Slusher of Mims, FL; stepchildren Chris Roberts (Kalama, WA), and Jessica Roberts (Columbus, OH); and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Rozetta Hutchens-Slusher and John Gilbert Slusher, siblings Mary, Marie, Robert, Vernon, William, James, Donald, Benny, an infant son, and his daughter, Sandra.

A private celebration of life will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lloyd's name to an organization close to his heart, the Wounded Warrior Project.
