COCHRANTON — Lloyd M. Wallace, 86, of 355 Old Perry Highway, Cochranton (Sandy Creek Township), passed away at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at UPMC, Greenville, following a period of failing health.Lloyd was born on Aug. 23, 1922, a son of the late Roy C. and Myrtle A. Young Wallace. On July 28, 1951, he married the former Marjorie A. Gehr, who survives.He had been employed by American Viscose Corp. of Meadville for 30 years and had also operated a dairy farm in Sandy Creek Township until 1992 at which time he retired.Lloyd was a U.S. Army veteran, having proudly served during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the line of duty. He was attached to the Antitank Division, 315th Infantry Regiment, 94th Division. He was involved in the following campaigns: Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. In addition to the Purple Heart, Lloyd was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.He enjoyed attending and traveling to the reunions of his Army friends over the years. He was a lifetime member of Greenville James O. Jordan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. After his retirement from farming, Lloyd enjoyed fishing and caring for his lawn and was an avid fan of watching golf on television.In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by a son, Marvin Wallace of Hadley; two daughters, Andrea Sires and her husband, Jim, of Hadley, and Deanna Schrader and her husband, Richard, of Ashboro, N.C.; a sister, Zelda Bigusiak of Meadville; a brother, Wilmer R. Wallace of Hadley; and five grandchildren, Wayne Wallace of Fort Collins, Colo., Jimmy Sires of Hadley, Vicki Swartzbeck and her husband, Brian, of Adamsville, and Alyssa Schrader and Alex Schrader, both of Ashboro.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Leona Householder; and two brothers, Wilbur Wallace and Delbert Wallace.Friends may call at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home Ltd., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Keeling of Reash Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Steve Letonek, pastor of West Fairfield Wesleyan Methodist Church.The committal service and interment with military honors accorded by members of the James O. Jordan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374 will be in Sheakleyville Cemetery.The online guest register may be signed at
