Logan L. Gerheim

Logan L. "Heinie" Gerheim, 96, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, in Concordia of Fox Chapel in Cheswick. Born Sept. 2, 1919, in Salina, he was a son of the late Philip H. and Mary Luemma (Brothers) Gerheim Sr. Heinie was a graduate of Bell Township High School, attended Penn State University and served our country with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed as a roll turner for Hyde Park Foundry for 30 years, retiring in 1984. Heinie was a 32nd Degree Mason with the F&AM Lodge in Des Moines, Iowa, a member of the Syria Shrine in Cheswick and former member of the Salina Bible Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, helping others and spending time with his family. Heinie enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Penn State fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Spencer) Gerheim, who passed away in 1969; brothers, Carl, William, Philip Jr., Harold and Mearl Gerheim; and sisters, Myrna Dentzel, Florence Barker, Freda Mercer, Fern Weister and Beulah Swartzendruber. Heinie is survived by his children, Linda (Brian) Orr, of Cranberry Township, Blaine (Debbie) Gerheim, of Claysburg, Pa., and Thad (Karen Adams) Gerheim, of Stanley, Idaho; grandchildren, Rachel (Godfrey) Chan, of Hoboken, N.J., Dr. Shannon (Dr. David) Buchanan, of Gibsonia, Jared Orr, of New York, N.Y., Jeanine (Dan) VanFossen, of Cranberry Township, Krysta Gerheim, of Del Ray Beach, Fla., and Katelyn Gerheim, of Claysburg, Pa.; and great-grandchildren, Spencer, Ava, Oliver, Amelia, Hayley and Logan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, in the funeral home with Pastor Ronald Brown officiating. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, by the Apollo Lodge 437 F&AM. Burial in Westview Cemetery, Avonmore, where military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard.
