CHARLES R. MYERS (BOB) (CHUCK) (CHARLIE) VALPARAISO, IN

Bob, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two weeks and one day ago at Northwestern Hospital, passed away on September 13, 2016 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 4, 1947 in Valparaiso to Ed and Alta Myers. Bob was born on his Mom's 30th birthday. In November 1966, Uncle Sam sent him a letter "asking" him to join the Army. He got his GED and a trip to Vietnam, where he faithfully served his country. Bob and Deb Wilgus were married on February 8, 1975. Deb had the privilege of being his wife for over 41 years. They never travelled much together, because Bob was a homebody. He told Deb he did all the traveling he wanted to do when he was in the service. Bob's "mancave" out in his garage was well known by his friends in Morgan Township and Kouts. In the winter, the "man cave" would be toasty warm with a fridge filled with cold beer. Bob was a member of Local 150 Operating Engineers and worked many years for Furnace Services and Johnson Excavating. Little ones loved to sit on Bob's lap. He always had a small tablet and a pen for the girls to scribble in and for the boys he had a small screwdriver. Survivors include his wife Debbie (Wilgus) Myers, his son Edward, and his sisters: Jean (Jim) Elston, Cindy (Gary) Whitcomb, Mary Moore and Betty (Roger) Eggleston; his brothers: John (Jane) Myers, Bill (Nanci) Myers, Richard (Barb) Myers and Trent (Kate) Myers. He is also survived by his mother- in-law: Garnet Wilgus, sisters-in-law: Kathy (Bob) Garmon, Jane Mullins, Cheryl and Jeni (Jerry) Barton, brother-in-law Wayne Wilgus and many cherished nieces and nephews. Also surviving in his best friend since childhood Denny (Boo Boo) Bair and his good friends from the Bridge and the Malden Oasis. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Arthur Myers, niece Stacy Myers, sisters: Sally (Larry) Stutzman and Barb (Roger) Thompson, and his father- in-law, Wayne E. Wilgus. May God Grant Bob Eternal Rest. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St, Valparaiso. Funeral Services will be Friday, September 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home, Pastor Larry Stutzman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be given to Porter County VNA Hospice Center, 2401 Valley Dr, Valparaiso, IN 46383. bartholomewnewhard.com
