Lois Bowers

BANGOR - Lois (Bolstridge) Bowers, 87, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 22, 1922, in Corinna, the daughter of Loren D. and Lena A. (Ervin) Bolstridge. Lois graduated from Corinna High School in 1942 and went on to enjoy a career as a chef for 30 years. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Tuscan Chapter No. 148, Bangor; American Legion Honor Guard Post No. 84, Orono; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Norman J. Dow Post No. 1761, Bangor. Lois was a very loving, generous person who loved her family and was very loyal to her friends. She is survived by her children, Mary Clark of Millinocket, Candice (Bowers) Ayer of Glenburn and Clyde Johnson of Redding, Calif.; brother, Elmer Bolstridge of Corinna; companion of 11 years, Ralph Smart of Bangor; and his two sons, Michael Smart of Veazie and Tony Smart of Bangor, who were like her own sons to her; sister, Leatrice Moore of Crystal, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Audry Bolstridge of Corinna and Rosemary Polliwade of Largo, Fla.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her two husbands, Clyde Johnson and Fred Bowers; son, Phillip Johnson; daughter, Kathy Goodine; sister, Lorraine Potter; and brothers, Loren Jr., Lloyd and Leslie Bolstridge. Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.
