Lois Byers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2022.
Lois Lee Byers, who loved to be called "Momma" by her kids, departed her loving family on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Lois was born in Bedford County, on July 22, 1934, to John H. Hudson Jr. and Lily T. Hudson.

She was a member of Big Island Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Lois was mother to Bill Byers and his wife Pam, Kathy Byers, David Byers and his wife Susan, Johnny Byers and Nancy Byers. She raised her children as a dedicated homemaker with love and devotion in Big Island with her husband Billy Byers.

Lois is survived by her five children, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. She leaves behind her sisters, Marion Weeks and her husband George and June H. Wilson.

Special thanks to her food friend Gail Mabe and her caretaker, Jamie Blankenship. The family is especially grateful to Big Island Baptist Church and Bedford Hospice for the comfort and care provided.

A visitation will be held from 4 until 6:30 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2022, at Big Island Baptist Church. Lois requested no service as she wanted to be remembered in death as she was in life, full of spirit and verve.

In lieu of flowers please consider Big Island Baptist Church, Big Island Fire & Rescue, or Bedford Hospice.

Arrangements by Burch-Messier Funeral Home, Bedford, 540-586-7360.

Sorry to hear , this morning, of your mommas passing. She was always there for you all at ball games and what ever was going on at school . I was blessed to spend alot of my youth years with you all and was able to fuel my competitive spirit competing with you against other teams and competing in sandlot games against you. Lois , I think, instilled that competitive nature in you all. Would it not be nice to be able to return back to those days . Those WERE the days!

Kathy and Nancy, I am very sorry about the loss of your mother. I don't remember ever meeting her, but my dad always had kind words to say about her and your grandparents. Somehow, a lot of time has passed since I've talked with either of you. I miss you both and would love to see you again sometime. Perhaps we will cross paths in the near future. Until then, rest assured that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
