Lois Poole Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 8 to May 9, 2018.
Lois Berneice Nord Poole, 81, passed away peacefully after a short illness at her home May 5, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Lois was born in Idaho Falls at the LDS hospital to Clyde James Nord and Amelia Berneice Nord on Dec. 12, 1936. She attended school in the Rigby area and graduated from Rigby High School in 1955. She loved playing the trombone in the marching band. She married Clyde W. Poole at the Clark Ward Church on Dec. 12, 1955. Their marriage was later solemnized at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 15, 1965.

Lois worked 14 years as a lab technician supervisor for Idaho Fresh Pak in Lewisville. She started as a dispatcher for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in 1976. After 29 years of distinguished service, she retired in January 2005 as the secretary for the sheriff, head of dispatchers and warrants. She worked with four different sheriffs during her tenure and was proud of her career in law enforcement.

Lois enjoyed traveling to various places, from Alaska down to Mexico and Hawaii, having adventures with her many friends and family. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing while vacationing in their camper or motorhome. After retirement, she spent the winter months snowbirding in Apache Junction, Arizona, with Clyde and family. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and always had beautiful daffodils, poppies, delphiniums, roses and hollyhocks. She also loved placing large rocks and garden ornaments such as frogs, turtles, ducks, alligators, roadrunners, pigs and many hummingbirds. She was active for over 25 years in the Cub Scouts and held many positions and enjoyed teaching the boys. She was the secretary for the Lowder Slough Canal Company for many years and was fascinated by the history of the canal systems.

She loved to golf in the Jefferson Hills Women League and Idaho Chapman with her husband, Clyde, and won in her flight many times. In 2017, she won first in her flight and said, ""Not bad for an 81-year-old lady!""

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde J. and Berneice Nord; a brother, Darwin Nord; her husband, Clyde W. Poole; and their beloved Shih Tzu companion, Buffy. She is survived by her sister, Helen (Bob, deceased) Watson; brother, Reed (Gaylia) Nord; sons, Kevin (Grace) Poole, Mike Poole and Brian (Melanie) Poole; and a daughter, Lori Jo Poole-Washington (Antonio). She had 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and cherish her.

A viewing will be held at Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby, Idaho, on Thursday, May 10, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at LaBelle 2nd Ward Church on Friday, starting at 11 a.m. There will be a family viewing prior to services from 9-10:30 a.m. She will be buried next to her husband at Annis-Little Butte Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.

Lois was a saint. She taught me alot in the years I worked with her. Was always up for or mad at practical jokes (mostly deputies clipping her paper clips together) she will be deeply missed.
