Lois Ann "Lois" Thierry UPPER Lois Ann (Wipff) Thierry

Born in Houston in September of 1945 to the union of E. C. Alois Wipff and Annareel (Boyd) Wipff, she attended local schools. Raised in Pecan Park, on the southeast side of Houston, she graduated from Milby High School. She married her highschool sweetheart shortly after graduating and, at Easter time in 1965, she and her then husband were in a terrible head-on accident with a drunk driver. She was not expected to live and was in a coma for over 3 months, came out of it and was in the hospital a total of 6 months before discharge. She had head trauma, a broken pelvis and femur, both ankles, wrist and more.

Her husband and their families were told she would never walk again. Good thing no one ever told her. She developed a love of walking, often walking 2 to 4 miles a day. And, when she and her husband divorced, took several small jobs, one of which was night telephone operator for a major retail company. This is where she met her present husband of almost 53 years, Robert (Bob) Thierry, Jr. They went on their first date on April 18, married on an April 18 and celebrated their "month-a-versary" every 18th of each month, 626 of them, ever since. Each always had the other's back. She was loved, is loved, and always will be loved by, her husband, Robert K. (Bob) Thierry, Jr., and her stepson, Robert K. III, who she helped raise from age 6, as survivors.

Her last two years were a struggle as a neuro-degenerative disease, possibly caused by the accident ('65) and slowly progressing for more than 45 years in her arms and legs until it picked up speed in '22 like a bobsled in the Olympics. That and a pancreatic complication, overwhelmed her. This beautiful, vibrant, athletic lady became a prisoner in her own body, worsening daily the last 3 months. She gave up the fight on July 13, 2024, at exactly 5:30pm, in the arms of her loving husband who told her, "Don't worry, I'll catch up."

I want to thank all her caregivers at Autumn Springs Assisted Living. The whole team took her in and treated her with care, compassion, kindness and love. As her time there progressed to almost a year it became increasingly difficult to care for her but they kept on, never stinting and always with love.

A private cremation and no services were held, per her wishes. Today, April 18, 2025, would have been our 53rd Anniversary.
