Lorne Clare

I was blessed to know Judge Lorne Clare. I represent my patients and clients as a 'friend of the court' and appeared in front of Judge Clare probably 80 times. He was always gentle, kind, compassionate and understanding of my patients and clients and he actually listened as I begged the court for kindness and creativity in dealing with the sometimes really quite funny situations. Lorne Clare made me a more patient and loving counsellor by being the living example of all the things that wise and just men should be. Author and Psychologist Robert Jay
Lifton once said....."one does it (counselling) in the name of hope". Judge Lorne Clare dealt with my people in the name of hope .......... and I will never forget his teaching.

Judge Clare was always a favorite member of the Westminster Club and Allen and I both looked forward to seeing himon every occasion. He always made us smile and feel that we were not just staff members but part of a family. He will be missed.

Lorne Clare was a Judge I worked with in New Westminster Judges' chambers. I was his secretary. There are no words to express how much I enjoyed working for him. He was my favorite Judge. He always treated me with respect and we became good friends. When I retired, I missed his quiet way, funny comments and his judgment. When he retired he kept in touch with me by email or when he and Eileen came to the island. He would make a point of visiting me. He came last year by himself for a visit when my husband was sick as was his kind way. We enjoyed sending funny emails to one another just to keep in touch ane he would keep me informed of what he and the family were up to. I will miss him very much but know he is in a good place, no doubt sharing a few funnies with his friends and family. My deepest condolences go to Eileen, Pat and Kelly and their families. He has left you all a wonderful legacy.

To the family of Lorne Clare, I offer my most sincere condolences...Arthur Dawe, Beaconsfield,QC.

The Clare's were our family neighbors for many years in Coquitlam.

As a child, I recall “borrowing” pop-bottles from their garage with the neighbor girl. Once found out, I was told to replace the bottles and apologize to Lorne. He was very gracious and forgave me.

Years later he even hired me to paint their fence, he was always there to support us and our family.

Finally, it was Lorne who recruited me to join Coquitlam Search and Rescue some 20 years ago. I was with him when he claimed to have an appointment during our avalanche training exercise. That same afternoon, unbeknownst to us, he drove himself to emergency with his first heart attack. Lorne was a true gentleman and a great guy, when he and Eileen moved away a hole was left in the neighborhood. Now I know he will be up near the pearly gates with Mrs. Skinner. I hope he can be there, to act as my council, so I and others might have a chance to be forgiven ‘once again’ and let in.


Rest in Peace our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Clare, Pat and Kelly.

It was a great joy and honour to work with Judge Clare as a Court Clerk in Burnaby. I was touched by his calm and gentlemanly demeanour. He used to share a lot of stories with me when we had down time. It was a pleasure to work with him. May God give you strength to bear this loss.

Lorne, Eileen, Kelly, Pat and even Jim were our most wonderful neighbours for some 40 years or so. We babysat, we were friends, we helped each other out at a moment's notice. When our father died, Lorne was always there to give us his wise fatherly advice. He was like an uncle to us. The big French Canadian family sends all their most heart-filled warm wishes to you!!!

It was an honour to work with Judge Clare as his Court Clerk in New Westminster. He was a gentleman and always held a special place in my heart. He will be missed by many people who he touched with his kindness.

To Eileen and Patty, and family. I counted Lorne as one of my all time favourite dinner partners at the RCH Foundation events; he had such fun stories to tell, especially about his family. We will miss him.
