35 years later, I remember the professionalism, but yet friendly disposition always shown by Dr. Gilliam. She made me feel so safe and comfortable as a first time mother. She advised me in all areas of motherhood, down to the better insurance(I had a few complications during the months before birth.) I will be eternally grateful. ❤

Oh my goodness. My Dr Gillian. She delivered my only son 33 years ago at the Washington Hospital Center he was 10lbs 21 1/2 inches and my daughter 26 years ago 8 pounds 20 inches same hospital. What a spectacular doctor always had a smile on her face. I truly feel blessed to have had her as my doctor. God called for his special Angel time to come home. I greatly appreciate everything she´s done for my family and she´s well missed

My memory of when I saw her last at a Delta event and the remembrance of her kind and gentle spirit immediately brought tears and disbelief. Dr. Lorraine Gillian, my doctor my friend. As I read here, many have expressed her to be their doctor-friend and I am apart of this elite group. A warm and loving spirit in the work of caring for women, a soul I truly miss. Like no other! You see, I was diagnosed with atypical breast cancer cells and my friend called me three times; a voice mail on my home phone and two on my cell. Recommending a referral and twice to make sure I received her messages. Off on that years journey, it wasn't until May that I called for a visit excited to tell her all was well with me to hear a voice on the phone tell me of her passing. Time stood still. It is only until today that I can sign her guest book still a little choked up but wanting to celebrate a lovely woman who cared so much. I still have her voice mails. I never saw her in a moment of anger or distress, just ever so pleasant like chatting with your girlfriend. To the Family, I pray this note adds another confirmation of the person she evolved to be, how much she is missed and honored. Lovingly,

Dr. Gillian treated me last year in the ER only a few months before she passed. I was looking her up a week ago and found out she passed. Shocked. Condolences to her family.

I'm just finding out upon calling Dr. Gillian's Office to make my annual appointment with her that my "Best Doctor and Friend" passed away a couple months after my annual check-up with her last year. Dr. Gillian's wonderful smile and graciousness would just light-up the room, as well as lift your spirits. I know Dr. Gillian is Resting In Peace with the LORD !!!

I was discussing, today, with a friend about calling Dr. Gillian and making an appointment. She calmly gave me the news that Dr. Gillian had passed away. To her immediate family, friends and all of the individuals whose lives she touched in so many ways, I send my deepest condolences. She was a wonderful, caring lady and a magnificent Physician.

I'm revisiting the Guest Book because I just wanted to see your smile! I miss you Dr. Gillian! You were so much more than my Doctor. All these years...I thought I was special...I see that everyone else felt the same way. That is just who you were and that is truly a gift! I know that you are enjoying your heavenly reward. I am truly surprised & saddened in learning of her transition. She delivered my one & only daughter who just turned 21. I was looking her up to see if I could make an appointment because I wanted her to see her again. I wished I had looked her up a year ago. May Allah be pleased with her!

Still sending condolences to Dr. Gillian's husband an family. Like so many others, I was blessed to have her as my ob/gyn for many years. A memory I will always treasure - after surgery that she knew I had much trepidation about - I awoke the next morning, before the sun had even come up - to find Dr. Gillian sitting at the foot of my bed. We talked for about an hour. The surgery went well, she just wanted to be sure I was okay. We must never take people who touch us like this for granted. Always say thank you, I love you, I appreciate you. We never know when it will be the last opportunity to do so.

I called today to make an (overdue) appointment, and learned Dr. Gillian passed away almost a year ago. I am devastated...still. I pray that her family and friends continue to celebrate her life, for she touched countless others' with her love, compassion and great God-given skills.

Words cannot express the sorrow I felt when I called to make an appointment with Dr. Gillian and found out she had passed away. She was the best doctor I've ever had. She always took her time and explained anything you had a question about, and made you feel like you were her only or favorite patient. The medical field has lost a great one.

My heart skipped a beat today when my PCP told me that Dr. Gillian had passed away. She was the best and I pray that she is resting in peace. My sincere condolences to her family, friends and patients like me.

As my doctor for years before I moved to New York, I remember what I called her WALL OF FAME, with all of the beautiful new human beings she helped into this world. I ALWAYS remember her fondly. She left us a beautiful legacy.

I was saddened to hear of Dr Gillan's passing. She had been my ON/GYN since I started teaching 12 years ago. She is the only doctor of this kind I've had and certainly the best. Still can't believe it, still can't believe I'm writting this. My hands shaking and tears all over me. I needed to refer a friend of mine to her but kept thinking of her name cos I only saw her not more than 4x. I tried every possible way to figure out her name. Knowing it started with letter G, what kept occurring to me was "Gregory" but I knew it wasnt that.I then remembered my hsband might know I called him.@ work, and instantly he said "is it Dr. Gillian? My face lit with smiles. I quickly searched online only to see this sad information. I called to tell my husband and he screamed "what!".

On yesterday, I learned of the passing of the best OB/GYN doctor and friend, I've ever had in my life. I was devastated to learn the news but comforted in reading the messages of hope in the guest book. I've been a patient of Dr. Gillian's for 23 years. During my annual appointments, she'd always say, "I know the season is changing whenever I see you" and then, she'd proceed to ask about my mother, who worked at Columbia Hospital for Women during the same time with her and finally, she'd ask about my husband and two sons. Although, I'm saddened to know she's gone, I'm deeply comforted to know that she's in the presence of the Lord. May God richly bless you and keep you near during this time of consolation.

I was shocked and saddened to yesterday learn of the passing of Dr. Gillian. She's gone much too soon, although it was God's plan that she join Him at the time that she did. What a wonderful, warm, caring, person she was. And, a fantastic physician. She really made me feel comfortable before and after my surgical procedure. She was just always so caring. I'd been a patient of Dr. Gillian's for many years, and she was always great! My husband and I once ran into her down on the Mall at the Annual Family Reunion that's held there. Never will forget it--Dr. Gillian and I hugged like old friends, who hadn't seen each other in a long while. And she took time to chat with us. What a wonderful person. This isn't what I expected to find while trying to locate Dr Gillian. I was thinking about her today so I'm truly hurt that she has passed away. I'll always be thankful for the time God placed her in my pathway of life.
She saved my life and my only child(20yrs ago) with all the gifts God blessed her with medically. Dr Gillian stopped them from taking my daughter early twice and she would tell me to trust God and she'll do her part. When it came down to it they had a choice me or my daughter and she told my husband and I her goal would be to save both. I must say God had His own plans too.
I tried repaying her while I lived in Maryland by doing things from my heart. She'd always smile and say thank you and I didn't have to because she knew I appreciated it. Knowing that I could never extend the amount of appreciation to her I felt she deserved. It became clear to me as I would see her at work when I returned, that it wasn't about that because she naturally loved helping people.That was the beauty about her as a person and a doctor. That was another lesson I learned as a patient from her.
After spending 8 weeks in the hospital prior to delivery of my daughter and her being there with me every step of the way. She was such an amazingly God sent woman and doctor. She'd come to my room we'd have lunch, talk and any special things that she felt that I may need to make it through the process and be comfortable. She made it happen. She was small but definitely got a point across in a big way. Dr Gillian I guarantee you that, you've left GIANT shoes to fill. Because you've been such a blessing to so many people lives. You'll truly be missed and God gained a special angel.

Only learned of Dr. Gillian's passing today. Was quite saddened by the news. She was such a comfort to my husband and I as we nervously prepared for the arrival of our first child. Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family.

I called Dr. Gillian's office today to make an appointment and was informed she had passed. I was in shock! I had only been a patient for 4 yrs., but she made me feel like she had known me all my life. She was such a genuine, down to earth and caring person. My sincere condolences go out to her family. She will truly be missed.

My condolences go out to Dr. Gillian family. She will be very missed. I just found out today that she passed and it is truly like I've lost a family member. I've been her patient for about 26 years. She delivered my one and only son in an emergency C-section. I know I will miss her dearly.

I loved this on/ gun. Her bedside manner was exceptional. When I saw her she would pull up a stool and talk to me about me. I loved this. I told her I needed some diet pills she said I'm giving you diet pills Mrs Brown. You need to get back to exercising. She said we are older now been into our marriages minute and now we know how to Cook really well. I took her advice and started my exercise program. I only found out about her passing today. I was shocked. My niece wanted to start seeing her again because she just found out she is pregnant. Dr. Gillian delivered her first child as well as my two grandsons. I will miss her dearly! I became aware of Dr. Gillian's passing just today and I truly regret that I did not find out sooner. I was searching for her online for a young friend of mine who is expecting and having some difficulties when I came across Dr. Gillian's obituary. My heart just broke.

Dr. Gillian delivered two of our three daughters, both of which were difficult pregnancies. She was the best. The life of our youngest daughter, who is now 15 years old, was saved by Dr. Gillian when I was 5 months into the pregnancy. If it had not been for her quick thinking, we would have lost her. She will always be a hero in my life and my family will forever be grateful to her. She was so wise and so patient. The day she saved our daughter was almost magical because I made the appointment on that specific day just so I could see her instead of the midwife. We talked and laughed together and just as I was about to leave I asked her a question and she made me come back in. She examined me and sent me straight to the hospital admissions desk and she commenced to save our child, who was born healthy after surgery and bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy.

I have told that story to many people over the years because it was so dear to my heart. The world has lost a very special person in Dr. Lorraine Gillian. God gave her to us to help bring life forward into the world and she was magnificent at it. I am so thankful that her hands were the first to touch our children. God bless you Dr. Lorraine Gillian and thank you for being a very special part of our lives and may God comfort your family and loved ones until we all meet again.

I want you to know that my husband and I continue to pray for your comfort at this time. Dr. Gillian tenderly cared for me throughout the pregnancy of my first child. It was like having a mother and a doctor caring for you at once! I was blessed to have her in my life. I was so sad when I moved out of the area and had to switch to a new practice for my second pregnancy. I remember our last visit as she prepped me and my husband for switching practices...she was so kind, so caring! A wonderful wonderful woman. Thank you Dr. Gillian you are sorely missed!

Today, I am saddened to hear about Dr. Gillian's departure. I last saw her in late May 2015. And it was only today when I received a return call on my results did I discover her demise. She became my ob/gyn doctor after I'd tried out a couple others. She had been my preferred (and whom I'd referred) doctor for the last 13-15 years. As her patient, I will miss her, her candor, her smile, and her pleasantry.

I Met Dr Gillian in January 2014 while working as workshop leader at her church. She inspired me so much with her calm, loving, and caring spirit . I was impressed by her determination to serve and help other despite her busy schedule. What a privilege for me to have known her for a brief period of time. My heart is sadden to hear of the loss of a beloved spirit. Dr. Gillian has been my doctor for the past 20 years, and she delivered my children. Her calm spirit and dedication to serve women will be missed. I pray she has comfort and joy in heaven. She will be in heaven with that big smile!

My heart is heaving right now as I'm just learning about the most caring doctor in the world. I've been a patient of hers for the last 14 years. She delivered three of my children. I can truly say that she knew me as a patient and was always concerned about me. My prayers are with you in your time of bereavement.

My deepest condolences go out to Dr. Gillian's family. I was shocked and very saddened to hear of her passing. What a wonderful life, trunctated too soon. She was in the first class of medical students that I taught when I joined the faculty at Howard Medical School. She was one of the very sharp ones and I remember it to this day, 30+ years later. I will miss her, as over the years we used to get together on the Vineyard at Delta gatherings. Rest in Peace Lorraine. You will live on through the goodness and joy you brought to so many.

My heart goes out to the Family.I was a patient of the midwife but knew Dr. Gillian. I had to have an unexpected cesarean. I was terrified but both Dr.'s assured me that everything would be fine. I thought that all my children would be delivered by the same doctor but it turned out to be a blessing to have experience a birth through the hands of another great doctor. You will be truly missed.

Condelences from the Chew family Dr. Gillian was well known and respected. She was my doctor for over 15 years and delivered both of our girls. Truly she will be missed not only for her outstanding services but for the woman that she was.

My deepest sympathy to all members of the Tolbert and Gillian families. She was my friend, my Soror, my doctor, my daughters' doctor and the physician who delivered my grandchildren. Lou and I will truly miss our WONDERFUL friend and her marvelous smile.

I thank God for having shared the experience of Dr. Gillian for thirty years. She was my personal physician. She was patient, loving and kind. She delivered my son who just turned twenty nine on 7/12/15. She was also the physician for several other family members.I also worked for Drs. Corder for fifteen years and we referred patients to her. She will be missed dearly. I pray that God will comfort and keep you.
