Lorraine Wiebe

Violet Lorraine Wiebe, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2011. She was born in Winton, Calif., in August 1929 to Leah and Abraham E. Heppner. Lorraine graduated from Livingston High School in 1947 as Valedictorian of her class. After having worked for two years as a receptionist at Merced Dairy and Ice, she married William G. Wiebe on June 12, 1949, in Atwater, Calif. The couple made their home in Paso Robles, where they enjoyed a life of farming and cattle, and raised their five children. What Lorraine loved most was being a mother and homemaker - her homemaking skills compared to none. She was an excellent baker and cook, and fed her family and friends abundantly. She was active in the PTA and served as president and other positions for many years. Because of her love for cooking and working with children, she volunteered as a 4-H cooking instructor. During the 1970's, Lorraine worked outside the home as a secretary for Weber-Nelson Realty in Paso Robles. She also participated in church activities - she sang in the church choir, organized children's church and taught Sunday school. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and shared her talent by singing at weddings and other social events. A happy retirement was enjoyed with William as they traveled throughout the United States, our neighboring countries and Europe. Lorraine lost her beloved William in 2001, after almost 52 years of marriage. Lorraine's 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren brought her much joy and she shared many hours with them. Her love for them was overflowing. Her heart was full of love and kindness and to all who knew her, she was our "Sweet Lorraine." Lorraine is survived by her three sons Doug Biebe of B.C., Canada, Nick Wiebe of Cambridge, Idaho, and Rodney Wiebe of Templeton; two daughters Deanna Wiebe of San Miguel and Myrna Wicks of Shandon; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Dirks of Clovis, Calif.; and brother Irvin Heppner of Turlock, Calif.. Viewing will be held from 8 to 19 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home, 1703 Spring St. in Paso Robles. A service will be follow at 11 a.m. at the Fist Mennonite Church, 2343 Park Ave. in Paso Robles, followed by burial at Willow Creek Cemetery.
