Louis Caruso Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2025.
Louis Richard "Butch" Caruso passed away on April 5, 2025, in Hamden, Connecticut. Born on June 8, 1943, to Alfred Caruso and Rosina Cozzi, Butch was raised in the flats of Woodbridge, where his early years were shaped by a close-knit community of family and enduring friendships. As a child, he attended Beecher Road School and Amity Junior High before graduating from the automotive program at Eli Whitney Technical School in 1961. Following his education, Butch served in the Army Reserves, demonstrating his commitment to service.

On May 23, 1970, Butch married Melodee "Bunnie" Amendola. The couple began their life together in Woodbridge before settling in Bethany in 1974, where they raised their two daughters and built a warm and welcoming home. Butch loved cars and was a fan of anything with an engine. He worked hard as a heavy equipment mechanic and was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He loved to spend the weekend riding snowmobiles or ATVs with family and friends.

In 1996, Butch and Bunnie purchased a small house in West Topsham, VT. They treasured their days there, continuing to grow their circle of friends through open doors and shared meals. This retreat eventually became their retirement home, where their children and grandchildren visited to build snow forts, have picnics and just spend time together.

Butch was a loyal son and son-in-law, a devoted husband, a supportive father, and a loving grandfather. His legacy lives on through his wife Bunnie Caruso; daughters Theresa Woyciesjes and Stephanie Magnuson; sons-in-law David Woyciesjes and Erik Magnuson; and grandsons Salvator Woyciesjes and Louis Magnuson. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ann DelBuono, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

If a good life can be measured by the number of people one can call friend or family, Butch was rich beyond compare. May memories of his joy in life, love and friendship bring comfort to all who knew him.

A celebration of Butch's life will take place on May 23, 2025 at Saint Rita's Church, 1620 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Connecticut Humane Society https://cthumane.org/?form=memorialtribute

Ernie and I couldn't have asked for better neighbors than Butch & Bunnie when they lived here in VT. Ernie was so glad he got to give Butchie a ride in the side by side when they came back to VT for a visit. We will cherish all of the memories we have of Butchie. To Butchie's family, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I first met Butchie through my ex Chester when I lived in Woodbridge. When I remarried, my husband Billy talked about his friend Louie from Eli Whitney days. It was at that 50th reunion at the surprise of knowing Butchie and Louie were the same person. Now they have reunited again. May he rest in peace.
