What a beautiful human being ....from such a beautiful family! My most sincere condolences to the entire "famiglia Esparo". Oh, his voice when he sang 'O Holy Night' on the makeshift stage at the Christmas concert at Wm. H. Warner School which I attended with my lifelong friend, his younger sister Barbara. OMG! What a treat! That powerful voice!
Thank-you for all your contributions to this crazy world, "Chickie". Rest....
May peace & cherished memories bring your loved ones comfort.
God Bless,
Charlie Perrotti (sisters Fran & Teresa too.)

Mark and Alicia,
As you know I only knew Lou the las few years of his life. He made an indelible impact on me and was one of the most special people I've ever met. His obituary was so illuminating, though I was not surprised to learn of his many distinguished educational accomplishments. Lou maintained his dignity and kindness throughout his life. He was so humble and always asked me to sing for him never hinting at the depth of his own talent. He only let on that he sang in glee club, we joked that we should take a show on the road. He will be greatly missed and I will never forget him.

Mr. Esparo was my sixth grade teacher at Turkey Hill School in Orange, CT.
He was a kind and inspiring teacher. He taught us how to learn, be creative, and respect others.
Always looking dapper in his Rooster Ties and sharp clothes when he told great stories and sang to the class.
To this day, I remember the song "Mississippi Mud." I sang this song to my son when he was going up and now sing it to my granddaughters.
May you "beat your feet upon the Mississippi mud - yeah."
Thank you for being a wonderful teacher and role model. You left a lasting impression on me.

I was a teacher in Region #15 while Dr. Esparo was our beloved superintendent. During my thirty - six years as an educator in Region #15, he was the model of what all educational leaders should be. He treated all his staff with dignity and respect. Each person he spoke with was made to feel valued and important. We all hope in our life to effectively impact the life of others in a positive way and in my humble opinion, that his what Lou Esparo did on a daily basis. He was by far, the best superintendent that Region # 15 ever had and more importantly he was a beautiful human being that I had the honor of knowing and working with. My sincerest condolences to his family.

It was an honor and a privilege to have had the opportunity to learn from him and to know and respect him on a both a personal and professional level. Dear Mark & Lynne,
Louis is still remembered here in Torrington as an outstanding Superintendent of Schools.
It is so hard to say goodbye to our loved ones, especially a long-lived parent - there is always an element of feeling much younger than our years when Mom, Pop or both are still with us, even as we are in our own fourth quarter. It is a different kind of loss, and one that stays with us (as it should) forever. But the circle will be unbroken, and there will come the day when we are all reunited with our loved ones again. It is a great mystery we cannot fully comprehend for sure, but our faith sustains us and in our hearts we know this to be true.
May Lou's Memory Be Eternal! With love & care, from Sue and Bill Bryce +

In one's lifetime you can only hope that you will one day have the opportunity to work with a leader who possesses all the attributes described in the literature, someone who is effective, compassionate, and knowledgeable. That was Lou and I was lucky enough to work with him as my Superintendent from 1986 to 1997.
When Lou arrived in Region 15 he had an immediate impact on staff morale. I was absolutely amazed at how effective Lou was in bringing together his administrative and teaching staff for the betterment of the students of the school district. Our Administrative Council, which had generally been an inefficient use of our time, suddenly became an effective decision-making group. During Lou's tenure we rose to levels never before seen in our schools.
Lou seemed to know every teacher by name and really cared for the staff. When he made his regular visits to the schools he would be seen popping in to classrooms and offices to inquire about an ill spouse or to see how a teacher's child was doing in college.
And Lou never let us forget that the students were his number one priority. He pushed us every day to become the most effective school district where every child would succeed at a high level.
During the 1989-90 school year I assumed the role of Acting Business Manager and worked side by side with Lou. We spent many hours together and I was always amazed at Lou's depth of knowledge and his wonderful communication ability. He was truly a "class act". On more than one occasion I can recall a parent or staff member going in to meet with the Superintendent because they were upset over an issue. Twenty minutes later the person would leave Lou's office with a big smile. When I asked "Did you get what you wanted?", the reply would be "No, but he's such a nice man". His listening skills were legendary and that often made all the difference.
Lou included his staff in the decision-making process, worked closely with the Board of Education, and reached out to every community group. During our years together I can honestly say that, no matter the issue or problem, Lou always had my back.
As I grew as an administrator I always knew that Lou was the mentor, the model, by which I could judge my effectiveness. His intelligence and caring and focus put him in a category untouched by anyone else.
For years after Lou left Region 15 the administrators and staff would speak of his years in Region 15 as our "golden years". He was deeply missed and our world is a little less special without Lou among us.

Mr. Esparo was my 6th grade teacher in 1962. He was the teacher I always remembered and talked about. The best. Later in life I met his nephew Bryant during work. He took a message to Mr. Esparo for me. I wanted him to know how much he meant to me at that time in my life and ever since. Thanks Mr. Esparo - rest well.
