LOUIS HURTADO

Louis Hurtado, born June 10, 1916, passed away at his home November 20, 2011. He was 95. No services will be held; all are welcome to join his family at his home in Palmetto this Saturday, November 25, from 4 to 6.

Louis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dr. Ines de Hurtado, his children Montserrat, Jorge, José Carlos, Pablo and Magdalena, his sister Carmen and nieces Yvonne and Sonia and nephew Gilberto, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Louis was born in Barcelona, Spain, and grew up in Frontignan, France. He emigrated to the Americas in the early 1940's, moved to Venezuela and started a family. After participating in a number of business ventures, he joined the team in charge of building the Metro for the city of Caracas. From 1969 to 1975, Louis worked with Ellwood and Company, in New Jersey. He founded Suramericana de Avalúos, and remained at the helm until his retirement in 1995. Louis and Ines retired to the United States in 1996 and settled in Palmetto. For the past 15 years, Louis was an active member of the Sarasota Club de Petanque, travelled extensively to Europe and cultivated his love of gardening.
