For the 17th anniversary of the passing of beloved Dr. Mick I would like to again write how much he meant to me & my pets, as he did for so many others. I don't know what I would have done without him back in the 1980's & 90's when I was a divorced mother with kids & pets on a limited income. I went there many times with various critters for their shots, nail trimmings, treatments, medications, neutering, etc, at rock bottom rates. He would let you make payments or even treat your pet whether you had money or not. He saved the life of my large Shepard-Husky Snookie when she got very sick around 1 year of age. Ive had many batches of critters since then, I'm down to only 3 cats now, & wistfully think of Dr. Mick with fond memories. There will never be another vet like him. I wish there was.

Dr. Mick was a very good man who had treated many of our animals from child hood to adult. He was a wonderful man, and a great vet. I have seen many times when people couldnt afford to pay for the bill, and his replay was pay me when you get it. He will be sadley missed in our area. God bless the Mick family and be with them all. Rest in peace Dr. Mick.

I took my first cat to Dr. Mick in August of 1993 this was the first time I met Dr. Mick and I was taken back by his love for pets. I never met another person like this before cause I had just moved here from Cleveland and I thought to myself if everyone had just a little of what Dr. Mick had this would be a really wonderful place to live. This world will not be the same without him. God Bless all the Family.

Dr. Mick was a man that cared more about peoples pets instead of money, and you knew for a fact if you called him in an emergency he would help you in anyway possible. He will be sadly missed by all of his friends in both human and animal form.

I'm so sorry to read of the passing of Dr. Mick. I took all my pets to him for many years, and he always greeted my children asking if they were here for their shots! He was so easygoing & unpretentious, dressed in blue jeans & suspenders, & of course his office was not exactly an office- old chairs around a huge old converted coal furnace in an old basement of an old house! Treatment table, sink, & cupboards in the corner. You didn't even have to make an appointment to see him, just show up during office hours. Dr. Mick provided an invaluable service to pet owners, charging much less than any other vet,& did not charge an office visit fee , telling me once that you just get what you pay for, medicines, etc .If you could not pay he treated your pet anyway, and did not send a bill either. He didn't even ask for your address. He would take payments, or wait till your payday, or forgive the bill completely. He saved many pets lives who would have died when they got sick and the owner was broke. He was devoted to the care of all animals, and will be truly missed by so many, many people including myself.

Dr. Mick not only took care of my parent's animals, he also took care of our animals during our current 27 years of marriange. His dedication to animals and their well-being will only be matched by a select few. Dr. Mick was truly an amazing human being who unselfishly helped those who could not help themselves. He will be sorely missed.

I grew in the house Louie lives in and was always made to feel a part of the family. I won't forget the farm calls Joanne and I went along on with him and Emma. There isn't enough space to begin to say how much Mick and Emma did for me from the time I was a baby and throughout my adult life.
I will truly miss him and cherish all the wonderful memories he has given me. Mick..you will always be a remarkable man and live in my heart forever. God truly blessed me by having the privilege of having you in my life. God has you now.
You have many Rewards and Blessings waiting for you.
May you rest in sweet peace.

Dr. Mick for many years was the veternarian for my father's dairy herd. He came once a month to handle the routine veternary care for our 90 head of registered Guernsey. It was over an hours drive to our farm in New Waterford. We would receive a call one evening each month saying he would be there the next day and would we call Ruperts and let them know also. He used to keep our barn pigeon population in line and bring us elk steaks from his hunting expeditions. The four of us children loved it when Dr. Mick visited. As an adult, I moved to Brimfield and happened to drive by his Barberton office one day and it brought back such pleasant memories, I had to stop and pay a visit. So I saw the waiting office with the furnace mentioned in one of the other letters. He was a very unpretentious man and a delight to know. We will miss you.

Dr. Mick and my dad, Roy Bland, the barber, were good friends. I stopped into the office when I was in Ohio in the summer of 2000. It was wonderful to see Dr. Mick still at work healing our animal friends. He was a wonderful man. God rest his soul.

A modest and unpretentious man, Dr. Mick greeted pet owners as they entered his basement door and worked their way down the stairs. His waiting room wrapped around a large old converted coal-furnace. The room was appointed by a broad sampling of chairs that represented the many decades of furniture style changes seen since his graduation from Cornell University.
Dr Mick’s practice was so untypical--no staff of lovely cheerful young attendants wearing smart looking pink or green medical uniforms and eager to usher you and your needy pet into the doctor’s care. No fountains in the waiting room, or beautiful garden walkways, nor soothing music or fancy computerized accounting system. Simply Dr. Mick—who was usually dressed in bluejeans with red suspenders, tending to the needs of our beloved pets in a timely way, and one at a time by asking: “All righty then; who is next?”
Having mended, cured, or otherwise met our pet’s needs, he would do some quick mental mathematics and then arrive at a final service figure which was somewhere around half of what you’d expect to pay elsewhere. As for the accounting system—he kept his fees in a cigar box on the ironing board next to his examining table.
While some of the above may have changed over the years since my last visit, I’m confident his down to earth compassion, and simple no-nonsense style remained the same. He will be missed, and long admired.
Respectfully, and on behalf of our many pets.

What a loss to all the animals of the Akron/Barberton area. I know he hasn't been practicing for a while; he treated several of my pets and will be sadly missed by all. What a great vet he was!
