LOVETTE JANEEN TEICHERT

I think this is the wonderful woman who taught my Samtagschule classes in the '80s in the basement of the Washington Square library! She absolutely showered us with kindness and care, and loved celebrations. I went to a big German party at her house one time, with all kinds of delicious German food. Believe it or not, I actually remembered enough as an adult that I was able to navigate a business call in German once. Vielen Dank, Frau Teichert, und Auf Wiedersehen.

Missing my mom on what would have been her 81st birthday. I am still upset I missed your party last year. Now it is too late. Anguished,

I'm so sorry to learn of Mrs. Teichert's death. She was always jolly and kind. I remember one Easter when I was about 10, we happened to be in Michigan and she had an Easter basket for made up for me. I will convey this news to my father (Tom) as he'll want to know. Know your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Herman, my old roommate, I offer my sympathy for the passing of your lovely wife, Lovey.
It is the time of life where we hear of the deaths of many old friends as stated in Ecclesiastes. l expect to see her (and yourself) when l, too, go to be with Christ. Maybe call me sometime? 330-414-2156

Many years ago some time in the early 70´s I was married to a German and living in Germany.

We had a young daughter. She used to go to pre-school Kindergarten in our small town of Wunsdorf.

One day after I had picked her up and driven us both home, she called me and said, "Mami, We have a

new boy in Kindergarten und er spricht genau wie SesamStrasse."



At home we always spoke a mixture of German and English. I insisted that we spoke English at home because we were living in Germany and my German was not so good - I was learning slowly by being immersed in the language. Plus, it was easy to give my daughter the opportunity to be bi-lingual. Kostenloss. !



Straight away I realised that this new boy must be American if he spoke "genau wie Sesamstrasse." SesamStrasse ? ? ? ? I thought that that the poor boy must be struggling to communicate and feel pretty isolated if he couldn´t understand or talk to the other children. Straight away I invited him to come to our home for the afternoon, after kindergarten, to be with Anne-Kathrin (my daughter) and have play time and food.



After checking us out (I don´t remember how we did that) Bill came and that´s how we met Lovey, Herman, Bill and Heidi. We became the best of friends and built such a joyous friendship. When Lovey and Herman visited Berlin, Bill and Heidi stayed with me for a week. . . . . . . . . . such trust !

I just loved having those little people to stay with me.



We played "Cludo" every week at least once. We laughed, we hugged, we just loved each other like no other friendship ever did (for me). We were SPECIAL.



There was more to come. Through lots of conversations, chatting and opinions´ exchanges - too complicated and convoluted to explain here - Lovey and Herman asked me and my husband, Gunther,

to be Godparents to their two children. What bigger compliment could anyone ask for ? Uncle Werner (living in Germany) was the Minister who led the Baptism Service and It was such a poignant, emotional and, at the same time, joyous occasion.



Sadly, my husband, Gunther, died some years ago. The Teicherts and I have kept in touch throughout the years and Bill has always updated me with the family news.



The generosity, kindness and love which I received from the Teicherts is second to none. Through their generosity (Bill gave me his air miles) I was able to visit Kalamazoo and have such a unique opportunity to travel across the pond and visit this amazing family.



I have dozens and dozens of stories to tell but I´m sure everyone else has too.



I am still looking for the most appropriate place where I can plant my tree in memory of such a

wonderful woman - my dearest friend, Lovette. As soon as it is done, I shall send photos to you.

She will have a lasting place in the U.K. in memory of her and our friendship.

I met Lovey through Herman. Her love for people and teaching languages were note worthy. She loved to see people from all corners of the world having great conversation. Many of those conversations turned into meaningful friendships, thanks to her.
Fun loving, witty and now, terribly missed.

I am so sorry to hear your news. Lovey was an amazing, sweet, kind, smart, sassy lady with the most infectious laugh and personality! She will be greatly missed. I was one of her husband's German students and cleaned there home while attending WMU. Not a day would pass without a story or laugh shared. She also included me at Thanksgiving (absolutely amazing cook too) as part of the family. I will be praying for you all and that God will carry you at this time. We are here for you! The Seelbinders

The family of Lovette Teichert have my deepest sympathies. I have known Mrs. Teichert for years, starting with being a student in her Saturday morning German class at the library. She was a wonderful, caring person and I am so very sorry to read of her passing. She will be missed. My heart goes out to her family some of whom I have also met over the years.

Unser herzliches Beileid, Hermann. Rolf's and my thoughts are with you and family. I have many endearing memories of Lovey, and she was always generous with and thoughtful to my daughters.

She was a fabulous host always welcoming to me as Dr. Teichert and she had the German Table late 70`s-early 80`s in Kalamazoo..went on to teach High School, tutored and had Elementary German..learned Indian Poker and Simon sagt during those times with 4 additional trips to Germany after graduation in 1981..RIP
