Lowell Colby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2010.
Colby, Lowell E. The evening of November 6th, 2010, a good man passed quietly into the night. At 87, Lowell was preceded in death by lifelong sweetheart of more than 58 years, Josephine, much loved son, Lowell Jr., parents, Edith & Leslie and sister, Lois. A veteran of WWII and Korea, he served his country when called at home and abroad, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Honorably discharged from the Army in 1955, Lowell dedicated himself to his family and worked as a letter carrier with the United States Post Office for three decades. Never afraid to say "I love you", Mr. Colby was protector and friend to surviving sons, Jon, Tim and daughter, Christine. Certainly, grandsons Nate & Todd McIntosh, Ryan and granddaughter, Misty Colby will miss their kind, steadfast mentor. Lowell bequeathed his earnest heart to his 11 great-grandchildren to grow within them. At least 3 cousins survive him, Robert, Adabelle and Yvonne. Enough cannot be said about the wonderful care this good man received from Veterans' Services over the years and Mount Olivet Day Services most recently. Lastly, we wish to thank Hospice of the Twin Cities for their very much appreciated guidance in heart breaking times. Funeral services are Monday, November 15th, 11 AM at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue, Edina. Visitation at 10 AM. Burial at Fort Snelling Cemetery, 1:45 PM that afternoon.

My Loving Father, I am going to spend my life missing your soft assuring voice and your strong hand reaching out to me when ever we came together.
You taught your children to put one foot in front of the other during challenging times and to never give up. Your love for is your strength and we will continue to carry that on for you.I see the way you carry yourself in my Son & Grand children. They remind me that you are always with us.
Love Jon

Dad...I miss you more and more. The way you stood your ground, and if a battle seemed the right thing to do, you refused to go down with out a fight. I will honor you every day by following this example...and keep your memory alive to light my way through dark and gloomy times. Our home is dark now, and deafeningly quiet. Alas, we will visit you and Mom often at Ft. Snelling where you lay waiting to hear all we will tell of the life's trials, tribulations and hard won joys. Love, Tim.

Grandpa, you have been a big part of my life and my families. We will miss your love and support you always shown us, but will never be forgotten. I promise to teach Carly & Haley the values you have shown me.

Now, Its normal greed of us to wish you were still here, but we all have to remember that you are were you wanted to be, that is to be with Grandma and Chris. We will be together once again, but until then I love you.

Dear Colby Family,

Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel in hearing of the passing of Mr. Colby. At baby Zachary’s baptism it was obvious to us that ‘Grandpa’ is a beloved member of the family. We are honored to have had the opportunity to spend that day of celebration with him. I am eternally grateful to Mr. Colby for welcoming my sister and her children into the family with such loving kindness. I feel that your loss is a loss to all the people who knew him.

May God's Grace strengthen you,
Jessica & Greg Naderi

To the Colby family. Lowell would write me letters, call me,and ask me to pray Masses for his wife and son. Even when I went to Iraq, he would write to me. We met a couple of times. I will keep him in my prayers and offer a Mass for him. May God bless him and give him eternal happiness.

I remember Lowell as the security guard here at Toro where I beleive he served for a number of years. You could always count on his friendly smile and warm welcome whenever you encountered him in the building. May God grant you comfort at this time of loss.

Steve Funari

My name is Steve Funari and I knew Lowell from the TORO company where he was a security guard. He always had a kind word and a super smile on his face for all to see. Always willing to help or listen to problems of others. I retired in April of 2006 from Toro and Lowell was still apart of the security for Toro. Thru the years we had sat and discussed the worlds problems....he never seemed to be down...even when his beloved wife was having all of her health problems. I will miss Lowell very much and I know....all that knew him will find sadness in his passing. He is with the Lord...God Bless.....My sympathy and condolences to his family.
