Lucia Veronica Gerber, 86, of Burlington, died at 3:22 PM Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 9, 1922, in Rome, Italy, she was the daughter of Nazzareno and Maria Nardi Tagliacozzo. On October 24, 1959, she married John J. Gerber in Burlington. He died February 11, 2004. Lucia worked for Sylvania and at Burlington Medical Center as a nurses aide for 22 years. After she retired, she volunteered at numerous places. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. She was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, avid Nascar fan, especially Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Maria (Steve) Roth and Laura (Jason) Fidler both of Burlington, seven grandchildren, John (Tami) Gerber, Dustin (Elisa) Roth, Rachel (Blake) Cameron, Luke Roth, Natalie Roth, Drake Fidler and Lauren Fidler; five great-grandchildren, Libbie Magel, Rian Gerber, Ellie Gerber, Gavin Gerber, and Delaney Roth, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, one son, Robert Gerber, one brother and two infant sisters. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Gerber will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established for SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.
