Lucille’s essence shines strong in the very picture chosen here, her presence, wisdom, strength, struggles and humour. Her deep love for her family and yours for her are precious gifts that will not leave in the time ahead as her terrible loss tears at your being and feeling of place. Lucille was indeed special and gave much to all of you and she touched so many others. With much sadness I write and some anger too at another mean death from breast cancer, a crummy disease I also share.

With deep sympathy and great respect,

Nancy,

Dear Ed, we are deeply saddened to hear of Lucille’s passing away. We can never know why sad things happen, we can only know that nothing beautiful in this world is ever really lost , because all precious persons live on in memory, forever. Lucille was a very precious person, for me, all recollections of memories of her, are associated with smiles and her remarkable sense of humour with the touch of caring and understanding of people and issues. Thoughts and prayers of many from here are with you and the family at this time of sorrow. Take good care of yourself.

My deepest condolences, Ed and family, from myself, my mother and our respective families here in Oshawa. My late grandmother, Lois Johnston, knew Lucille as a very kind hearted person with a generous spirit. We are all thinking of your family at this very difficult time and our thoughts have been with you since we heard the news. Ed, Paul and Christine - you don't mourn alone.

Although I am not a member of the NDP, from all I have read and heard about Lucille, she was very much the NDP's "First Lady". My deepest sympathies to Ed, the family, and the Party.

Rest assured that all of Canada mourns the passing of Lucille. Mr. Broadbant's leaving politics to be with his wife in her moment of need is testimony to his outstanding character. He will always be one of the finest examples of what we want our politicians to be and how we want them to act.

My sincerest condolences go out to his family and acquaintances.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time in the seasons of life. Philippians 1:21 says to die is to gain..so that means her spirit lives on. Hold on to your memories, the walk will now be difficult, but we never walk alone. Time does not heal, but Love does, we love you and grieve with you Ed. Thank you for sharing your beautiful Lucille with us, along your journey.. Isaiah 40.31..
