Lucille “Lucy� T. Collins, 87, formerly a long time resident of Kokomo, and now residing in both Kokomo and Winter Haven, Florida, passed away at 11:20 A.M. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Astoria Health and Rehab in Winter Haven, Florida. She was born August 8, 1923 in Hamilton, Alabama to the late Charles R. and Susan (Pope) Templeton. Lucy attended Hamilton High School in Alabama, graduating in 1942, and then later graduated from Wright Beauty College. Lucy married Donald Collins, and they were married for more than 64 years. Donald survives. Lucy was employed by Delco Radio, and also worked as a hairstylist at Maple Crest Plaza Hair Salon for a number of years. Lucy enjoyed a number of past times such as; ceramic and cut glass art, sewing, quilting, gardening with a great love of flowers, traveling, bocci ball, playing card games such as hand and foot with her friends, and Bible studies. She was a faithful attender of both the New Life Church here in Kokomo, and the First Assembly Church in Lake Wales, Florida. Lucy is survived by her husband, Donald Collins; two children, Joyce Elaine (Mayes) Bartels of Fishers, Indiana, and James Donald Collins of Miami, Florida; her grandchildren, Christopher, and Geoff Cardwell, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jason, Joseph, Jeffrey, Joel, and Joanna Mayes, Ethan, Louisa, and Pierce Collins; along with two siblings, Jack C. Templeton, Georgia, and Bobbie Sorrell, Kokomo. Other survivors include her great grandchildren, Nolan, and Paige Cardwell, Meadeline, and Max Mayes, many nieces and nephews, and many close friends and neighbors in both Kokomo and Florida. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judith Annette Cardwell; and six brothers and sisters. Lucy’s family will be receiving friends for a time of visitation on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, Kokomo, IN, and then again from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 9, 2011at The New Life Church, 1803 East Vaile Ave. Kokomo, IN 46901. There will be a funeral service for Lucy immediately following the visitation on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. also at the church with Pastor Randy Blankenship, and Pastor Don Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery.
