Lucille Hartman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2025.
Fayetteville - M. Lucille Hartman, 96, formerly of Marks, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family.

Born May 1, 1929, in Lemasters, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Edith May (Mills) Hopkins.

Lucille grew up in Marks and graduated from Lemasters High School in 1947. She married Milton Hartman in 1947. She raised her boys and dedicated those early years to caring for them. After her children were grown, she continued caring for others as a teacher's aide in the Tuscarora School District, primarily in elementary schools and special-needs classrooms. Her home was always open, often full of people and food (her love language). She enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family alike and excelled at both. She frequently hosted large family meals that lasted all day, with multiple waves of relatives stopping by. When she wasn't tending to those around her, she enjoyed ceramics (for a time keeping her own kiln in the basement), crafts, and working on "word finds." She spent countless years supporting and raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, continuing to do so well into retirement, eventually passing down her love of gardening, birds and countless cookbooks. She volunteered regularly at church and for community projects, helping with meals, bazaars, festivals, and other events. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of The American Legion, Wesley Yeager Post 606.

Lucille was a long-time member of the Fort Loudon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Hartman of Mercersburg, and John (Cindy) Hartman of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Kris (Allen) Stine of Mercersburg, Shawn Hartman (Dan) of Mathias, WV, and Jason (Cindy) Hartman of Fort Loudon; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Stine, Christian Hartman, and Brianna Hartman; a brother, Paul Hopkins of Mercersburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 67 years, Milton Hartman, and her brother, Larry Hopkins.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Fort Loudon United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Allison Grove officiating. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Fort Loudon United Methodist Church (12781 Main Street, Fort Loudon, PA 17224) or Journey Hospice (1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Suite 20, Gettysburg, PA 17325).
