Luella Methe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 13, 2019.
Methe, Luella, September 17, 1934, passed away February 12, 2019. Survived by loving husband of 59 years, Louis, children; Randy (Kim), Julie, Ann (Bob), Joan (Robin), Mary (Todd), Lonnie (Niz) and 15 adorable grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters Josephine and Mae. Preceded in death by her son, Gary, her parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Luella worked as a nursing assistant in Kearney where she met lifelong friends Lonnie and Marie Schaffroth. It was there that she met her husband, Louis, through her brother, Del. Their first date was at a dance hall. They later married and moved to Omaha to raise a family of seven. Luella would go on to attend community college for several semesters before continuing work in nursing. She was well known for her compassion and care with patients.??
Luella was a steadfast Catholic her entire life. They worshiped and brought up their children in the community of Mary Our Queen Church, where they were founding members. Her faith also influenced her strong political and social opinions. ??
Though Luella was not fond of cooking, she could always be found testing new recipes for canned pickles, garden tomatoes, breads, jelly and candies. The Christmas treats she taught her girls to prepare became holiday traditions that were later shared with grandchildren. She spent many evenings reading scripture, novels and crocheting afghans.??
It takes a tough and wonderful woman to take care of one child, let alone seven. Louis gave one reason why their marriage lasted so long: "We would always go to bed, be settled, and not be angry or upset." In her final days, Luella would tell him, "I love you, I love you, I'll always love you."??
Luella has always shared the life God gave her and gave time and love to all. Along the way she made lifelong friends Betty, Linda, Carol, Sharon and Pete, who gave her immense comfort in her final days.??
She trusted God for most things. She worked hard and stepped forward to serve. She brought all of the concerns of family and friends to the Lord. Memorials to St. Jude Chidren's Hospital.
