To the of Luis, My deepest sympathy for your loss. Luis and I referred soccer in the Ann Arbor area for many years. He was always quite the character and I enjoyed our many games together. He strived to teach the young kids how to play with skill and sportsmanship. Luis will truly be missed.

This is very sad news. I have interacted with Ref Luis for a decade as an ASSA player, bit also as a high-school level soccer coach and as a spectator of high-school games. He was a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed. Dear Luis, may you whistle penalties and free kicks in the green fields of heaven.

He was always such a friendly presence on the soccer field. I loved having Luis as a ref in our league in Ann Arbor. Sending you all lots of love during this difficult time. We will miss his smiling face on the fields! <3

My deepest sympathies go out to the family on Luis' passing. He was a terrific man and a good friend. He fought his cancer bravely and quietly. I admired him as a fellow soccer official, assigned him as often as I could, and always enjoyed working with him. It was so important to him to keep refereeing, and his passion for the game was obvious. His life story reminds me so much of my father-in-law Jose, who also loved the game of soccer, left South America as a young man to come and work in Michigan for General Motors, studied at GMI, and built a family here. Luis lived a remarkable life, and I hope his story is well documented for future generations of his family. Rest in peace, Mr. Luis!!
