Got to know Luis through mutual friend Bernie Carbo. Watching them interact with each other on many occasions with such joy and laughter was a great pleasure. Luis Tiant was a gift to Red Sox fans and in fact fans in all the cities that he pitched in. He was the ultimate combination of great substance and great style. His factual record is certainly Hall of Fame worthy, and his showmanship and style were beyond all other ball players. We were so lucky to have watched him pitch in Boston. Peter and Linda Hantzis

As a child in th 70's driving from Maine with my Dad to watch Red Sox play, Luis was on the mound and his mustache was the first thing I remember. I had never seen such a stache!

Today I am saddened to hear the passing of a great gentleman whom happened to be a great pitcher. I remember seeing him at many games @ Yankees Stadium and met him once at a card show. The story is accurate that people, myself included, have told him he should be in the HOF. Super classy guy and I´m disappointed nobody can see the numbers he put up just like nobody could see the pitches he threw that won 200+ games. Luis, you´re a one of a kind and absolutely a beloved HOFer in my heart

A great pitcher. His wind up was not only one of a kind, but it got the job done. Amazing to watch. Sincere condolences to the Tiant family. Truly sorry for your loss. May God be with you all.

What do you say about unique pitcher, and unorthodox wind up, shaking his hands together, then pausing, throwing his leg up, to only see his back from the batters perspective, he was a joy to watch, especially when he pitched against Cincinnati in the world series. But I will share a quick story, while I was in fort Myers Florida, in 2013, I was pulling into a parking lot and he was leaving, I jumped out it was waving to him yelling his name, he waved back, and did a u-turn and came back to talk to me for about 15 minutes, we shared some memories of him pitching, and he laughed while talking on his cigar, just a regular kind of guy loved people, love his fans they should have put them in the Hall of Fame, he was telling me he was there to move his daughter back to Maine, she worked at Marshall's in fort Myers, so a week later, I went into Marshalls and had a nice conversation with her also, just a great story, that I can share with family and friends, we'll miss you Louie, you're great human being, there should be more like you, to his family, I said my sincere condolences, may you rest in peace my friend, love you brother

I had the privilege of riding the bus for the Burlington Indians in 1963 as Luis was there star pitcher. My dad, was the manager, Pat Colgan and I use to go on road trips and always sit next to him. By the way it was a converted school bus with no AC in the summer of 1963. He faced the likes of Joe Morgan, Lou Pinella, Roy White before going to Portland in 1964 and then to Cleveland. And his windup was unique
