Luise "Liesel" Maine, 82, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013, in her home.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, with Pastor Laverne Janssen officiating. Burial will follow in Texas State Veterans Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Frank Delatre, Don Blackburn, Brian Willcockson, Kyle Hayward, Danny Kelly, and Jesse Rosales. The family will receive friends at a visitation 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Luise "Liesel" was born August 8, 1930 to Herman Otto Paulus and Luise Freida Suss Paulus in Spock, Germany. She married Robert Joseph Maine, Jr. on February 12, 1957 in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1961, they moved to America. She moved many times following her husband's military career. Liesel and Robert settled in Romulus, Michigan in 1969. They moved to Abilene, Texas in 1989 to be closer to family. Liesel was well-known for her rum cakes and loved cooking for everyone. She won many awards for her handmade afghans. Liesel loved animals, especially Chihuahuas that she had as pets most of her life. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Liesel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert J. Maine, Jr.; a sister, Trudel Ebersoll; and a brother, Richard Paulus.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Hayward and husband Russ, of Abilene; a son, Daniel Kelly and wife Ann, of Morriston, Florida; two grandsons, Brian Willcockson and Kyle Hayward, both of Abilene; a granddaughter, Jenifer Sullivan and husband Richard, of Woodson, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Alannah Sullivan of Woodson, Texas and Jocelyn Willcockson of Corona, California; two sisters, Lore Haag of Germany and Paula Noland and husband Charles, of Corona, California; a nephew, Wolfgang Haag and wife Ute, of Germany; and a niece, Gabriela Lutz and husband Karl, of Heinz, Germany.
