Mrs. Kashiwagi was my 3rd Grade teacher at Campbell Hill Elementary (a long time ago!!!. I won the class spelling bee & still have the dictionary she gave me. I remember her, small but mighty... way back when she was my teacher, I was excited to read a newspaper article about her climbing Mt. Rainier at 50. That always impressed me. She was Inspiring!

Ifirst remember Lulu from a fishing trip that I took with relatives to Lapush. It must have been 1958. It was a great and memorable trip for me and started my interest in fishing. I caught my first salmon on that trip fishing with Frank Fukano. I remember stopping for lunch at Lake Crescent and while we were there Lulu jumped in for a swim. This memory has stuck with me all my life. I have since fished Lapush and Neahbay a lot and whenever I can, I take a swim in Lake Crescent inspired by her. I wasn't surprised to read in her obituary that she went back to get her teaching certificate when she was 50.
she also went on a 50 mile hike around Mt Ranier with us boy scouts during that time. My condolences to her family she led an inspiring life.
