Luther Ira Smith

PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Luther Ira Smith, 72, of 1112 Park Springs Road, died November 10, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Caswell County Nov. 21, 1930, to James Nathanial and Mary Green Laws Smith. He was educated in Caswell County Schools and was employed with Dan River Mills as a cloth inspector for 37 years.

He was a member of Community Baptist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and a deacon. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany for two years.
He was married to Edna Somers Smith.

In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Smith Smith and husband, Michael of Cherry Grove, Denise Smith Smith and husband, Ronnie of Burlington; one son, John Ira Smith of Richland, N.C.; two sisters, Mabel Purnell of Yanceyville and Ola Laws of Reidsville; two brothers, Clarence Smith of Providence and the Rev. Curtis Smith of Danville, Va. and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Smith, Pastor Rev. Ralph Edward Thompson and Rev. Keith Boling. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Community Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
