Judi & Dan Mersel
July 7, 2017
Judi & I first met Lyle shortly after moving to Rochester in 1986. We met a warm, caring, fun loving man. It was easy to be a friend of his. What probably had the most impact on our family was our vacation we took with Lyle's family and other good friends to Hayward, Wi. It was there on Round Lake where our then teenage daughter met a young man she would later marry.
As our families matured we would continue our relationship, sometimes intermittently, but always finding it easy to reconnect. With Lyle's interest in hockey we once took advantage of flying in a small plane to Eveleth for the annual preseason Gopher men's hockey game. Even if we hadn't seen each other for a while, we would always seem to talk about how much fun we had going to Eveleth.
As time passed, we saw less of Lyle but memories of him and his family always found a way to sporadically occur in our own family's discussions.
Many years had passed before I last saw Lyle. I think it may have been five or six years ago when we were both at work. He had come to conduct an inspection of the building where I was working. It felt good to seem him after so long a hiatus because it was the same old Lyle ... a very nice man, with a smile and a mustache, with a big heart. That's the way we'll always remember him.
Judi and I would like to express our sympathy and condolences to Beth, Will and Graham.
