Lynn (Herzog) Voss Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2024.
Lynn Ruth (Herzog) Voss, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 3, 2024, at the age of 80. Her life was a testament to resilience, selflessness, grace, love, and kindness. Lynn was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Born in Boise, Idaho, on August 10, 1943, Lynn graduated from Beresford High School in 1961. She led the selfless life of a military spouse and mother, gracefully managing the challenges of military life while building a career in the accounting field with both the federal government and the State of Texas. Lynn was commended by the government for her service and dedication throughout her career.

Lynn's heart was always with her three sons, John, David, and Daniel. She provided them with love, encouragement, and, when needed, stern reality checks. She supported all of their endeavors with love and disciplined with grace. She delighted in their interests and ideas, often engaging in long conversations about philosophy, history, music, and spiritual matters. She boasted about her boys during her final years, proud of the individuals they had become. Lynn passed down her spirit of resilience and fierce independence to her sons, traits that continue to guide them in their lives.

Her selflessness extended beyond her family to her close circle of friends and neighbors. Lynn cared for them, bringing food when they were sick or in need, and helping strangers who genuinely needed assistance. She was ever mindful of others in greater need and determined to help whenever she could, as she was always aware of grace received.

Lynn was known for her bright, amazing smile, which she always shared generously. She had a heart for adventure, and she loved visiting Paris in the spring and Holland during tulip season. Her heart for adventure started early, as she was a member of the notorious 3 L's girl boss gang in high school. Friendships forged during that time lasted her entire life as she continued visits with fellow gang member and first best friend Lois and they regaled stories of girl road trips and wacky pizza recipes.

She absolutely loved going to casino with her sister Gaylene, long conversations with her beloved neighbor and friend Myra, assisting her dear friend Joyce run an auction company, antiquing, thrifting and garage sales. Her hobbies included knitting, reading sweeping adventure tales, and British history, drama and crime stories.

Lynn is survived by her sons, John Voss, David Voss, and Daniel (Vicki) Voss; her sister, Gaylene (Mike) Thomas; her grandchildren, Amanda Voss, Rowdy Hillmer (Josh Davis), Makenzie (Curtis) Traversie, Sterling Hillmer, and Casey Voss; her uncle, Dennis (Rose) Sweetman; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and fur granddaughter Maggie.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Floyd and Ruth Sweetman; her mother, Twyla (Sweetman) Herrick; her brother, Bill Herzog; her sister, Carol (Doug) Boettcher; and her fur granddaughter, Frito, whom she loved dearly.

A small private celebration of her life will be held by the family in the coming months. In her spirit and name, the family asks that we all directly help those in our daily lives who need assistance, just as Lynn would. Show love to those you encounter, feed the hungry, listen to those who need an ear, and demonstrate grace, kindness and deference to those living with dementia.

Oh Mom. I've picked up the phone countless times this past year to talk to you, to hear your voice, to hear your smile, to receive your guidance. I've missed you every single day this past year. I think I'm getting my arms around it, so maybe now I can learn to carry your loss. And I know you are always with us, and I am happy, so happy, that you are free and are the best most wonderful version of yourself right now. I can only imagine... I love you and miss you very much.
