I heard Uncle Lynn tell that story when I visited with my parents, Bob and Fay McCann, in the early 70s when I was in high school. At a family gathering in Wyoming less than 10 years ago, he told of his trip back to Portland to finish high school, explaining he hopped freight trains, camped with hobos, and had quite an eventful trip back to Gram's house in what is now the Buckman neighborhood. I don't think he missed that tiny shack in Wyoming one bit!

I remember visiting Uncle Lynn & Aunt Lorraine in their Rochester home in about 1970, when my son Tony was small. My parents, Gene and Yvonne McCann, were with me. What a beautiful home! Uncle Lynn told a memory of a long ago breakfast which included all of the McCann siblings, numbering 8 in all, along with their parents, Mae (Sutherland) and John McCann. Lynn's story had to do with his brother, Ben. Being the youngest, Ben was also the smallest. He loved bacon and had to raise his voice the best he could over the louder chatter of everyone else. His request was "pass der bacon", "pass der bacon" until someone finally heard him and obliged. Lynn had such a giggle when telling this story that I couldn't help but smile. I could just see the crowded table with hungry children all talking at once and Ben trying to be heard. It's one of my favorite memories of my Uncle Lynn.
