Lynn Warnstadt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2024.
Lynn Raymond Warnstadt, 86, of Raymond, WA, passed away on April 10, 2024. Lynn was born on January 14, 1938, in George, Iowa. He married Nancy in 1965 and they raised their four children in Raymond. He loved all 32 years teaching English for the Raymond School District and serving as the librarian for 12 years. Lynn also taught many students how to drive…and enjoyed sharing some of the scary stories about that particular experience. Lynn was the favorite teacher for many and liked staying in touch and hearing from former students as well as many of the teachers. He loved the outdoors, enjoying activities like gathering firewood, fishing, and camping. Lynn was an avid reader, reading a book a day for years. He secretly enjoyed mystery and western novels after spending most of his life as a literary snob. He could be salty and he loved that his grandchildren called him Grumpa. He stubbornly opted out of the use of technology, letting his former students manage the library computers, and he proudly never owned or used a cell phone.

Lynn was very smart, appreciated good humor, and valued doing things the right way. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his daughter Merina Hanson (Kurt), sons Blake and Dane, grandchildren Sadie Warnstadt, Kyle Hanson, Cameron Hanson, and Maisyn Warnstadt, as well as his younger brother Merle Warnstadt (Linda) and sister Joan Walcott (Tom). He was preceded in death by his son Blair Warnstadt in 2001.

Lynn graduated from Wapato High School in 1956 and pursued higher education, obtaining a BA from EWU, certification in librarian Science and driver training from CWU. He also earned additional credentials from Evergreen. He was a dedicated member of the ELKS Club for 61 years and remained a lifelong democrat.

Respecting Lynn's wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Raymond School Foundation or the Raymond Fire Department EMTs. Bayview Funeral Home in Raymond, WA, is assisting with the arrangements.

Rest in peace, Lynn Raymond Warnstadt. Your legacy as a devoted educator, nature enthusiast, and loving family man will forever be cherished.

Mr Warnstadt was probably my most favorite teacher in high school. He made things interesting and fun. He was also the Librarian and a fountain of knowledge. He was amazing, kind, funny and always there if you needed help. I'm saddened by his passing. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I have always loved reading but Mr. Warnstadt really opened my eyes to poetry. Every time I read a poem by Robert Frost I remember Mr. Warnstadt saying " You'll love this, you're a farm girl!" He was definitely my favorite teacher and will be missed. Sending hugs and prayers to his family.

I enjoyed spending time in the library at the High School and talking to Mr Warnstadt. I was his library assistant for 2 years and enjoyed the task. He also helped out later with trimming fruit trees for my Mom. Prayers for the family, keep all of the good memories close to your heart.

Lynn Warnstadt was a great guy with a great since of humor. A wonderful teacher and extremely helpful collegue to a rookie teacher like me back in 1975. I will miss Lynn and the many great conversations we had. Both Bob Jungar and now Lynn Warnstadt passing two great teachers who will be greatly missed. Thanks for all you did for me throughout the years. Raymond High School is a better place because of you. Thanks.
