Lynne Prater Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 26, 2025.
Lynne Prater, born on February 5, 1968, in Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, in Denton, Texas. She was the beloved daughter of Bill and Harlene Satterfield. Lynne was raised in Abilene, attended Abilene Cooper High School and later moved to Denton to attend the University of North Texas. She dedicated many years of her professional life helping others in her work for the state.

Lynne had an amazing sense of humor and a contagious laugh! She and her sister Shelly shared a deep friendship and a mutual passion for "I Love Lucy." Lynne could recite nearly every "I Love Lucy" episode by heart, often quoting Lucy's antics and referencing 80s movies, effortlessly delivering lines that brought laughter in any situation. Beyond TV and movies, Lynne loved to cook. Every family gathering included her famous beans or corn casserole, dishes the family always requested. Lynne also had a soft spot for cats, ensuring the neighborhood strays were always well fed. A lucky few made it into her home where they were spoiled with affection.

A member of St. David of Wales Episcopal Church, Lynne found solace and community in her faith. Her life was a testament to kindness, laughter, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew her.

Above all, Lynne was a proud mother to her two children, Caitlin Nixon (Aaron) and Caleb Prater. Her greatest joy was being their mom, and she felt an immense sense of pride as she watched Caitlin graduate from college and achieve her dream of becoming a nurse. Becoming a grandmother to Caitlin's daughter, Maisyn Nixon, brought her joy in recent years, adding a new layer of love to her life. Lynne was equally proud of Caleb, whose quick wit and shared sense of humor always brightened her day. He channeled this enthusiasm into musical expression with the saxophone and a passion for multiplayer gaming and track and field.

Lynne's family extended beyond blood ties through cherished bonds with her friends and caregiver. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Satterfield. She is survived by her mother, Harlene Satterfield of Fort Worth; her sister, Shelly Gower (Jim); and her niece, Meredith Gower of Prosper.

Funeral services will be at 2pm on February 1, 2025 at Saint David of Wales, 623 Ector Street, Denton 76201.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made in Lynne's memory to First Refuge Ministries at 1701 Broadway, Denton, 76201.

I will always remember the Lynne from High School who everyone loved because she was literally the sweetest and funnest. Just a ray of sunshine I am so happy that we caught up a few years ago and had some wonderful talks. It had been years. Rest easy Lynne and I´ll see you when I get there!
