M. Beeson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 6 to Jun. 7, 2007.
August 11, 1921 — June 4, 2007

MARION — Gault Beeson, 11th child of 13 brothers and sisters, was a native son to Marion County and never strayed far from home. His father, Emory Andrew Beeson, came to Mullins after the turn of the 20th century to teach the art of tobacco farming, but it was the Beeson offspring that grew from the Marion County soil.

At the age of 26, Gault became the Marion County Commissioner, later called Administrator, a position held for 40 years until his retirement in 1987. He was fondly known as Cap n Beeson. A child raised during the Great Depression, he lived his life according to the values of hard work, sacrifice, honesty and integrity. To most residents, Gault Beeson was Marion County.

Although it could be argued that his drive to serve Marion County dominated the early years of adulthood, in the twilight of his life his compassion for animals, most specifically his beloved beagles, his little angels, ruled his world. They were his pride and joy.

Gault had many other loves and passions. Known for loyalty, Gault was a 55+ year member of the Lions Club, with perfect attendance. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, serving as Sunday School teacher for Uncle Charlies Hut Bible Class for 15+ years. Gault was a lifetime member of Wildlife Action. He loved Clemson dearly and was a lifelong IPTAY member. And anybody that knew Gault knew of his love for baseball and the Giants.

However Gaults greatest loves were his wife, children and his deep personal relationship with God.

Surviving are his Wife of 50 years, Katherine, and her children, Michael Beeson and Frank Beeson and his wife Bridget and their children Alex, Andrew and Lee; Gaults son, Bunny Beeson and his wife Nan and their daughter, Kari; Gaults daughter, Polly Johnson and her husband Ricky and their daughters, Amanda Lanford and her husband Blake and Ashley Stoudenmire and her husband Larry and their children Ashby and Addison; a brother, Joe Beeson; and a sister, Hazel Hancock.

Gault was predeceased by a son, Andrew Gregg Beeson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at First United Methodist Church in Marion. Burial will follow at Little Zion Church Cemetery in the Zion Community, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wildlife Action, P.O. Box 866, Mullins, S.C. 29574 or to Little Zion Cemetery Fund, PO Box 866 Mullins, S.C. 29674.

Dear Beeson Family,
Please accept our prayers and thoughts during this hard time. You guys were my family for 21+ years. Uncle Gault was always part of the wonderful stories that Malcolm would share with Donovan, Trae, Travis and I. I know he will be greatly missed.

Dear Frank, Bridget, Mrs. Beeson, and family, I can not begin to express my sorrow for your loss. Though it has been years, Mr. Beeson's ways of encouraging laughter are not lost on either my sister or myself. I will think fondly of him, hopefully sharing his witty humor with God. May you find strength in Him and feel His love and persevere as a family through this time. You all are in our prayers.

My sincere condolences and sympathies go out to the WHOLE Beeson family. The Pooles and the Beesons have been intertwined for as long as I can remember and for certain for years before that. My Dad and "Mr. Gault" were hunting buddies, they served on the County Board of Commissioners together and shared a deep love of Clemson. I am certain somewhere up there in Heaven they are listening to the Clemson fight song right now and really enjoying themselves. Unfortunately for us, we are still here to deal with and understand the loss of a loved one. My heart goes to each of you as you go through this difficult time. You are in my prayers.

To Mrs. Katherine and The Beeson Family, Mr. Gault was one of the finest men I have ever dealt with in business during his time as County Administrator. My fondest memory of Mr. Gault was when he took the time to show my children around at Sandspur Hill Beagle Pins. Out thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

The Beeson Family,
We yearn so desperately for answers to why the horrible things happen, but God doesn't come down and explain. We simply won't always know why certain things happen in our life - until the end of time when GOD wipes the tears from every eye and makes all things new. Then and only then will we know the answers, and fairness will reign. Until then, you will find a way to get through this. You will find a way to feel joy in your life, again. You will find a way. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We are very sorry for the lost of your love one.Keep faith in God and he will see you through. Our prayers are with you.
Let grief do its work.Tramp every inch of the sorrowful way.Drink every drop of the bitter cup.Draw from memory and hope all that they can offer. To see the things our loved ones have left behind will give us daily pain-the clothes they wore, the letters they wrote, the books they read, the chairs in which they sat,the music they loved, the hymns they sang, the walks they took, the games they played, their seat in church, and much beside- but what would we be without those reminders ? Would we like quickly to break with the past in order to ease our grief ?Those who truly love will say that they have found in sorrow a new joy,a joy in which only the broken-hearted can know.
My God be with you and your family.

Dear Beeson Family,
I have many fond memories of time spent with my cousins, aunts and uncles at Grandma Beeson's house...and through my Aunt Agnes' eyes I learned a lot. I knew that my Uncle Gault was a special man who carried forth a number of traditions my grandparents instilled in all of their children: a high level of integrity & ethics, hard work, giving back to the community & preservation of what had been before. Uncle Gault's legacy to Marion County will always be remembered. My prayers are with you Katherine, Michael, Frank, Polly & Bunny. Love and strength and the bond of family to all the Beesons.
