M.E. Gene Johnson

I still miss him. Thanks for sharing him with me.

Mr. Johnson was a remarkable, one-of-a-kind man. He had the biggest heart, and always carried a smile on his face. I will always remember his afternoon hugs and kisses on the forehead.

He was a very respectable man, and he will forever be our thoughts and greatly missed.

I was always greeted with a smile and a hug. I will miss that ray of sunshine when I arrived at the office. He leaves a wonderful legacy as I have known of him since I moved to Round Rock back in 1985 and as a part of the dominoes bunch under the tree on Main Street and Mays at the gas station. I will always remember what a special man he was. It was an honor to know him and honor to work with his family. God Bless.

My wife and I are so very sorry to hear belated that we have lost Gene. We knew him to be a kind and friendly man of good character. We first met Gene in the mid 90’s during one of his famous walks around the neighborhood in the Oakland’s in Round Rock. He was always friendly and smiling with a kind word. He always waved either when he walked by or when he drove by. We often stopped him and talked with him when we caught him walking by. We think of him often. He will be missed and warmly remembered.

Ady, Pam and Family: Memories and thoughts of your father since '80 ring fresh in my mind. Being a family man was KEY in his life as was evidenced by the family business. Particularly, I remember as a part-timer at Airport Auto Supply and tenant for 5 years on 49th St., seeing your Dad's cheerful smile, the warm greetings, and always had a hug. He never met a stranger. He touched my heart from the first time I met him. He never judged but always loved. He will have a special place in my heart. His contribution to the youth in Austin was proudly displayed and evidenced by the trophies and little league photos on the walls of Airport Auto Supply. He will be deeply missed. "Daddy Gene" inspired so many lives while doing God's work. He leaves behind two of the most precious women (and their wonderful families) I know and his integrity, positive nature, backbone and honor live through you. Heaven has another wonderful angel watching over you and he is so proud of you. Deepest sympathy to you and yours as I keep you in my prayers. Cherish those awesome memories.

I first met M.E. Gene Johnson at the garage on Airport (mid 70's). I was with my dad who introduced us and told me that he would be a good role model for anyone contemplating opening and running a business. I last saw him several years ago and he still remembered who I was and was his usual kind and generous self. He really was a role model and I think that the automotive repair business that still bears his name still reflects his core values of honesty and decency which is probably why to this day I remain a loyal customer.

Words cannot express the deep loss I feel at the passing of your Dad. He was a man of great integrity, extreme kindness, and he always had a warm smile no matter what the situation. He has been my mentor for a long time, and I hope I can live up to his high expectations. His is a legacy that will continue long into the future. I will have a big hug for you next time I see you. I am so saddened to hear of the passing of your dear dad. I still recall first meeting him while waiting for an appointment in Marty's office. He was such a pleasant, down-to-earth, easy to talk to kind of man.

Far beyond his business accolades, Mr. Johnson's legacy is the beautiful family that continues to exemplify his character and work ethics in all that they do. From the moment that I meet Mr. Johnson, I was made a friend; he accepted me and all around him unconditionally. Though I look forward to the day that I will see him again, I am sad on this day not to see that big Texas smile.

Our deepest sympathies. Your father sounds like he was a very special person and led an extremely fullfilling life.

Having been a "daughter" of Gene Johnson for more than forty years, I had the privilege of learning first hand just how kind, caring and honorable a man he was. Mr. Johnson possessed an ethos many strive for but few attain. I am but one of the many grateful beneficiaries of his generous spirit. I will always love and miss this very special man.

I am so sorry to learn about Mr. Johnson. He had an honest mechanic shop, charged a fair price and it was the only place my late father would trust with the cars and trucks he owned.
This tradition survives him because I take my car there too.
I wanted to let his family know how much my Dad appreciated Mr. Johnson's hard work, honesty and excellence of work that came from his shop.

My deepest sympathy to you and your families. Your father was an honorable man. I will be out of town tomorrow for work and will not be able to attend the funeral.

Dad, you will be greatly missed. I'm proud to be one of your "daughters". You have taught me so much about real estate and about life. You leave a vacumn in this city that will never be filled. I'll always love you and promise to live up to your standards and the Johnson name!
