M. Lee Hulsebus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 15, 2025.
M. Lee Hulsebus, aged 86, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on April 13, 2025, in Grayson, GA. Born on February 21, 1939, Lee was renowned for his generous spirit, leadership, and deep love for his family.

Lee was a gifted athlete and scholar. He attended high school in Columbus, Nebraska, where he excelled in four sports and was recognized as a high school All-American basketball player. He continued his education and basketball career at the University of Wyoming and Midland College, becoming a three-time All-Big-10 player and participating in the NCAA tournament.

After college, Lee briefly joined the American Basketball Association before returning home to Nebraska to be with family while coaching college and high school basketball. He entered the healthcare field with Becton-Dickinson Company in 1965, eventually becoming President. His career trajectory continued upward as he became an international business consultant, the President of Bard Urology Division, and later CEO/President of Miracor. Lee retired in 2006 and returned to his first passion, coaching basketball at the high school level and spending time with family.

Lee's faith played a central role in his life. He was a devoted member of St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church in Snellville, GA, where he engaged in weekly adoration and had a fervent devotion to Saint Padre Pio. Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Lee and Sharon co-founded Pinecrest Academy, where Lee continued to mold and form high school basketball athletes after he retired. He was active in his Olde Town Grayson neighborhood, frequently stopping on walks to talk with friends or going to dinner with the "Bunco Boys". He was a passionate fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Nebraska Huskers, and the Los Angeles Lakers, and cherished spending time with his grandson.

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sharon Hulsebus; children Michael Hulsebus, Michelle (Hulsebus) Nelson, and Laura Ann (Hulsebus) Wingate; sons-in-law Hampton Wingate and Ryan Nelson; grandson Liam Wingate; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Sharon Hulsebus; sisters-in-law Lis and Cindy Hulsebus; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura (Siebler) and Alvin Hulsebus, and brothers Al "Junior" and Gordon Hulsebus.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, followed by a Funeral Mass and internment at 11:00 AM at St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church in Snellville, GA. The Mass will also be live streamed on the St. Oliver Plunkett Snellville YouTube channel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lee's memory to Pinecrest Academy specifically for the high school basketball programs at https://www.pinecrestacademy.org/giving/donate or to St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School's St. John Neumann scholarship fund at https://stjohnneumannregionalcatholicschool-f.factsmgtadmin.com/give/
