To Mrs. Marshall & Family: First and foremost, Hurst was and will always be the epitome of a gentleman. We had many good times together and too few golf games. Everyone in Indiana always enjoyed his visits to our statehouse and he presented his case and represented his employer with the utmost competence. Hurst was a patient and dignified person and you and his children should always remember that we in Indiana admired and respected him. Best Regards, Mark Palmer

Hurst was a wonderful colleague and friend. We worked together for many years -- good and bad! -- at The Tobacco Institute. Alex and I want Susan and her family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers. I know he is giving the Lord strokes on Heaven's golf course.

I had the pleasure of working with Hurst and indeed it was a pleasure. He was very much a gentleman and a true joy to work with. Thank you for sharing him with RJR and it's employees who will fondly remember him.

Hurst was a role model in business and in his personal life. He will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues around the country.

We are far, far richer for having known Hurst, and we mourn his passing.

My sympathy to the Marshall family. I am a former Ohio State Senator who knew Hurst through his job with RJR. He was a pleasure to be with and a credit to his profession. He will be missed by his friends and loved ones. Again, my sympathy to the family.
