Sr. M. Sylvia Schuler OSF

Sister Sylvia had many families…her biological family…the family of The Sisters of St. Francis…and the family that she helped to foster everyday at the St Francis Health System dedicated to caring for patients body, mind and spirit…a lesson that all former employees took along with them…Her loss will be felt by all who were privileged to have known her…

Sister Sylvia and my Aunt, Sister Mary Joseph, were the best of buddies for many years. She was a very intelligent, compassionate and independent woman. I'm sure God's work will still resonate through her spirit from the heavens.

Dear Sisters of St. Francis,
You have lost a very special lady. Sister Sylvia was always kind and gentle. My prayers and thought are with each and everyone of you.

My deepest sympathy to Sister Sylvia's family and to the Sisters of St. Francis. I was part of the St. Francis family for 30 years and remember her professionalism, compassion and dedication. She worked tirelessly and succeeded in providing the best healthcare in Pittsburgh. I feel privileged to have known and worked for her.

Sister Sylvia was a very kind and thoughtful person, she always took the time in her day to say hello. She never passed you in the hall at St. Francis Medical Center that she did not smile and ask how are you doing and to thank you for the work that you do. Sister Sylvia was one of a kind!

So many of us in the St Francis family benefitted from the work of Sister Sylvia. I was part of the SFMC system for nearly 20 years and remember Sister walking the halls to visit staff and patients. She was always approachable and loved to stop and chat - her contributions speak for themselves and I am certain the angels are singing and welcoming her Home. What a beautiful life that was well lived and a gift to us all.

Not only did Sister run a huge hospital for a number of years, but she always took the time to stop by patients rooms daily to talk or pray with them. Her work seemed to never end. She was truly a wonderful and compassionate woman. My condolences to her fellow sisters and her family.

If only each of us possessed Sr. Sylvia's resume-there would be no idle minds. I will remember her great accomplishments and spirit as an inspiration to perservere. Her life time friendship with my aunt-Sr. Joseph made her part of our family. We will miss her. A great woman of our time.

We remember fondly Sister Sylvia and all the good work she did in the Lord's name. We can take comfort in knowing her work continues in Heaven. God Bless you, Sister.

Condolences to family and friends of Sr. Sylvia.

We met Sister Sylvia a few years ago when she and her fellow sisters began living at the convent at Saint Bartholomew Church in Penn Hills.
It was a joy to see Sister Sylvia each week at Sunday morning mass. She always had a smile for the parishioners of Saint Bartholomew. We will miss her. May God comfort those who loved her. She was truly a child of God and rests in His loving arms.

My regret at our loss is tempered by pride in her many accomplishments, and satisfaction that her work is carried on. My father, Hubert Schuler, was Sister Sylvia's first cousin.
