M. Sherwood Obituary

NEW BERN - M.L. "Dave" Sherwood, Jr., 78, died February 1, 2011, at CarolinaEast Medical Center. Dave and his wife moved to New Bern in 2005 after living many years in Scottsdale, AZ.

Dave was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in New Bern, NC. He graduated from St. Paul's High School in Grosse Point Farms, MI, and he attended Bucknell, Michigan State, and Northern Arizona Universities where he was an all around athlete. He played football, ran track, was on the National Ski Patrol, and a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. Dave served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and concluded his military service as an instructor at the United States Air Force Academy. Dave was a retired real estate broker.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Old St. Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Peter C. Vail, Michael R. Edelen, and his sister, Mary S. Whims.

Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jackie Sherwood; two daughters, Lee S. Esmond and husband Greg, and their daughter, Catherine of Fayetteville, AK and Tracy Scheidler and husband Dan of Cincinnati, OH and their children, Julie Scheidler of Cincinnati, OH, and Craig Scheidler of Columbus, OH; one brother, Andrew R. Sherwood and wife, Jody, of Scottsdale, AZ; and two grandsons, Justin Vail of St. Louis, MO and Nicholas Vail of Springfield, MO.
