Madeleine LOUGHERY Obituary
May 29, 1960 - October 11, 2016
Madeleine Eva Clara Loughery, of Calgary, after a long courageous battle with breast cancer, passed away on October 11, 2016 at Foothills Hospital. She was surrounded by her beloved husband Jim, and adored sons Ken, Ben and Oliver. Born in Münchengladbach, Germany, she was the daughter of Irene Dury and the late Guido Thomas. Graduating with a Masters in Economics from Universität Münster, Germany, she worked to become the youngest Vice President in BHF Bank in Frankfurt, Germany. After marrying and having three sons, she became a volunteer leader in Le Leche League helping new mothers until moving to Calgary in 2004. Madeleine became an active volunteer in local schools, and the Calgary Northside Soccer Association. In 2011, she became the Manager of the Calgary Women's Soccer Association which she enjoyed immensely. Madeleine's passions were family, community, gardening and tirelessly volunteering. Madeleine is survived by her husband, Jim; three sons, Kenneth, Benjamin and Oliver; mother, Irene Dury and one aunt, Inge Thomas both of Germany; two brothers, Mark (Ulla) and Jürgen; two stepsiblings, Michael and Sylvia; mother-in-law Muriel Loughery; brother and sisters-in-law George and Sharon Loughery, Diane and Allan Cameron, Sharon and Doug Fillmore; nephews, Jamie Cameron, Christian and Kevin Stricker; nieces, Sarah and Sophie Fillmore. She will be fondly remembered by her many kind and wonderful friends, neighbours and colleagues. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Prayers and Tributes at St. Luke's Catholic Church (corner of Northmount and Northland Drive NW) on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church (corner of Northmount and Northland Drive NW) on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Madeleine's family at www.evanjstrong.com. For those who wish, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice. My deepest condolence to Jim, Ken, Ben and Oliver. Madeleine was an awesome lady and a fantastic mom. I had the pleasure to work with her as a parent on our school council at TOM Baines School. Mrs. Loughery was a lovely lady and really exemplified the meaning of community. As a secretary at Tom Baines Junior High I was lucky to have had many opportunities to chat with her and witness her kind, welcoming manner. Her sons are very much the same.
