Madonna Anton Obituary

Madonna "Donna" Josephine Anton

Williamston

Donna was born in a simple country home near Morley, Michigan, on September 17, 1934 to William and Flossie Browers.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nickolas, her parents and 20 siblings. She is survived by her soul-mate brother, Earl Douglas and his wife, Ruth, of Coloma, Michigan, her sister-in-law, Virginia Mansfield of Flint, Michigan, and her dear friend of many years, Dale J. Martin and his family. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and many "greats." They are scattered all over the U.S. and Canada. Some are very close and have been "caring angels" and very dear and special to Donna. They know who they are, the place they held in her heart and they will live with the wonderful memory of time spent together.

Donna was a graduate in the class of '52 from Howard City High School and kept in constant contact with her classmates, planning and organizing events for many years. All her classmates were dear friends and they had a close affection for one another. She later took classes at Lansing Community College and Michigan State University and was a loyal Spartan fan.

Donna and Nick moved into Williamstown Township in 1964 and to the City of Williamston in 1999. Her Pine Meadow neighbors were an important and treasured part of her daily life. She served as the Condo Association Secretary of ten years.

She tried to truly live her life by the Golden Rule, kindness and generosity being her goal for all she met. Hers was a life of giving. She was a leader, an energetic worker, demonstrating cheerfulness and a positive outlook. She was a member of the Williamston Area Senior Center, a founder of the WSF/ Senior Benefit Fund, The Williamston Schools Foundation, a lifetime member of the Williamston Depot Museum and the Michigan Historical Museum, and The Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1137 of the VFW.

Donna worked her entire life, starting as a babysitter at age 10, and retiring nearly 50 years later as a Court Reporter in the United States District Court in Detroit. She applied the same work ethic and loyalty to her career choices as she did to her personal life. She maintained contacts with her work friends over her lifetime.

She was often seen snapping pictures and many of those pictures will be kept as treasures by the recipients. This was a hobby she loved to share.

Donna loved to travel and to spend time with her family members. She made several trips to Alaska and Ireland and the very special trip every fall to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

Donna's smile will be missed at the Senior Center, but her final words would be "Always be kind to one another."

Visitation will be held Friday February 12, 2016 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Gorsline Runciman Williamston Chapel, 205 E. Middle St.

The funeral will be held Saturday February 13, at 11am at Williamston United Methodist Church, 211 Putnam, with the Rev. Jeff Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Williamston Senior Benefit Fund, c/o Williamston Senior Center, 201 School St., Williamston, MI 48895.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Williamston Chapel.

What a blessing it has been to work with Donna over 40 years ago and then to become her friend. Her twinkly eyes, beautiful smile, sense of humor and warm kindness is how I will always remember her. She made a positive difference in people's lives that she encountered. She was a real angel.

I first met Donna 48 years ago and she welcomed me with open arms. A beautiful smile and generous loving heart were only a couple of this sweet woman's gifts that she gave freely to all who knew and loved her. How blessed I am to have known and loved her.

We met Donna on our trip to Mackinac Island. Like Donna we love Mackinac and try to go every fall. Besides looking forward to seeing the Island each year, we also look forward to seeing the friends we have made on the trip going to Mackinac. Donna was one of those people. She had a beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed. Prayers for your family.

"Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." Heaven just became a brighter place. I will miss her.
