To say Mae was a true 'pioneer' in Alaska would be an understatement. She was so much more than that wherever she invested herself.
I first met Mae through the MDA; she was the driving force during the real hayday years when MDA was THE event of the City. I was the Anchorage Fire Department representative on the MDA board from 1973-1978, and Alaska Chapter president for two of those years. Watching Mae guide MDA in the community, and her interaction with some of the most highly profiled community activists and spokespeople was like watching a virtuoso conductor with a community orchestra; she was a master.
As noted, Mae's contributions to Alaska'a growth and history, and it's community was like watching a master manipulator - all for the betterment - guiding a huge project to fruition.
And she loved her family. And to all of her family I offer my deepest sympathies.
Rest in Peace, Mae. You've earned it.

Dear Tischer family, my heartfelt condolences in the passing of your amazing mom. I remember how she was such an hospitable woman even having 6 children permitted neighborhood kids like me to hang out! May I ask whom of her children will be present for the celebration of life?

My memories of my grandmother always remind me to be strong, to stand tall, to overcome, to take on any challenge before you, to make a positive impact, to face changes head on, not to be judgmental, to believe in yourself, to help others and to always be thankful for what you have.
A true Alaskan hero. One that I am honored to call grandma.

I have fond memories of visiting Mae at her homestead as a child, where I remember sourdough pancakes, reindeer sausage, and a beautiful vegetable garden. My family used the sourdough starter we got from Mae for years and years. She built our state and made it better - a true pioneer.
