MAE EVANS WELCH Mae Evans Welch, 87, of Beckley, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Born September 18, 1923 in Beckley; she was the daughter of the late Henry Harman Evans and Trisbie Bear Evans. She retired from Crescent Elementary School following 40 years of teaching; she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mae was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Beckley and was a member of the Friendship Class. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, John Lester Welch, Sr.; a son-in-law, Lewis Leatherman; and a brother, Henry Evans, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory include a son, John Welch, Jr. of Beckley; daughter, Sharon Leatherman of Ridgeley, WV; two sisters, Peggy Ann Roush of Orlando, FL and Joyce Maxine Massing of Beckley; three grandsons, Robert Kimble and wife, Debbie of LaPlate, MD, and Brian Scott Kimble of Charlestown, WV, David Kimble and wife, Nikki of Winchester, VA; granddaughter, Kimberly Patton and husband, Pat of Spring Mills, WV; special relatives, Tonia Kimble of Inwood, WV, Libbie Myers of Charlestown, WV, Amber Beeman and husband, Eric of Fort Ashby, WV and Arron Leatherman of Fort Ashby, WV. Services will be 3:00PM Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley with Rev. Don Snyder and Pastor David Kimble officiating. Following the services Mae will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Grandsons and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Friends may gather with the family from 1:30PM until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
