I'll never forget his lively readings in English class. I also used to see him regularly at St. Marks. I have never seen an equal to him in university. He was a fascinating and inspiring professor. I've always wondered what happened to him, and I just received the first newsletter from the UBC English department, and there he is. RIP

Thanks for being a most memorable professor of Chaucer for me, and bringing alive his writings with your wonderful readings and explanations of the text! Mahmoud was a good friend of Westminster Abbey and would come for one or two retreats each year. We will miss him. Requiescat in pace...

Mahmoud lived across the street from us, in a modest little white house. He had asked me to come over and help him replace a curtain that had come dislodged one afternoon. About 3 hours later, my wife tapped on the door, worried about us only to find us deep in discussions with an open bottle of 'something sweet' and she sat down and we had a lovely afternoon... He will be sorely missed.
