Mairi Morrison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Mairi Nicola Morrison, who was taken from us far too soon on July 16, 2025, when she was struck by a USPS truck while on her daily walk. She was 64 years old.

Born on July 14, 1961, Mairi was a loving and dedicated daughter to the late Seoras and Paulette Morrison. She attended Holy Cross Elementary and Woodward High School, then earned her Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College. She earned her JD from the University of Baltimore, and her PhD from the University of Oxford in England. She taught law, practiced law and provided pro bono legal assistance to many up until her death.

A lifelong resident of Garrett Park, and parishioner of Holy Cross Church, Mairi was an avid walker, voracious reader, and intrepid traveler. Her travels are too many to list, but include Spain, Morocco, India, Egypt, Austria, Iceland, and of course, her dear Scotland. In addition to walking, she also enjoyed tennis and golf and the company of her adorable cats.

Mairi loved and was beloved by her family and is survived by Conor (Shara) Michael, Ryan and Catriona (Joe.)

A Funeral Mass will be held on September 13, 2025, 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Church, located at 4950 Strathmore Ave, Garrett Park. A reception will follow in Lewis Hall.

May her memory bring comfort and peace to all who mourn her passing. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Holy Cross Church, and that you consider contacting your representatives regarding pedestrian safety and victims' rights.

So saddened to hear this - We got to know Mairi best when she was studying near us in Oxford; she was a live wire indeed and such good company. We met her for a riotous evening once in New York when we had to restrain her from getting up and singing with the jazz band - truly a larger-than-life soul who lived her moments to the full. Our thoughts are with the family but we are glad to have been touched by the fire of her passing.

Mairi was so talented, and her smile lit up a room. I knew her from her early teens/ high school days. I am very sorry to hear of her loss.

My sincere condolences to the entire Morrison Family. Though I was a Sophomore at Woodward when Mairi was already a senior, being in theater there myself and a burgeoning thespian, I recall my time with Mairi. With the primary director of shows put on then being Michael D´Anna and the choreographer for musicals and dance programs being his always cheery and delightful wife, many great shows were put on...that year I believe Mairi was somehow involved in Hounds of the Baskervilles where I played a Dr, Seward. The spring musical production for that academic year was a successful show, I recall that Mairi was definitely a part of. She will be greatly remembered and missed.
