MALCOLM KARLI SEARS Malcolm was born in Van Nuys on September 30, 1916. Graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1934. Earned a B.S. in agriculture from UC Davis (1940) and M.Ed. in Educational Administration from UCLA (1958). Taught high school agriculture for 40 years, 32 at Canoga Park High School where he coached many winning FFA judging teams. Married Margaret Willoughby in 1941 with whom he had three children, Mick (Susan) Sears of Bend, Oregon; Mark (Marilyn) Sears of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; and Peggy (Bob) of Claremont, California. Malcolm was a devoted member of the Northridge United Methodist Church for 44 years, originating the "Sears-burger" tradition and creating the beautiful landscape gardens. He was an expert on San Fernando Valley history and was a 32nd Degree Mason at Lodge 450 in Van Nuys. His favorite times were family times - home barbecues and holiday gatherings with good food, camping rendezvous with the entire clan, overseeing lively family conversations. He was curious, funny, opinionated and generous with his friends and his family. Malcolm died on July 1 in Ontario, California from complications from myasthenia gravis. In addition to his wife, Margaret, and three children, Malcolm is survived by five grandchildren and on e great-granddaughter. A memorial service is planned for Monday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northridge United Methodist Church. Sears Scholarship Fund, California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers, 3947 Lennane Drive, Suite 150, Sacramento, 95834.
