Mamie Wallin Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 11 to Feb. 12, 2011.
WALLIN, Mamie Agnes October 14, 1913 - January 19, 2011 In Loving Memory of Mamie Agnes Wallin who was born to Helmer and Annie Enge on October 14, 1913 on a homestead in Runnymede, Sask. where she and Mable Edna were the surprise twins born to this happy couple. They were the eldest in the family of seven children. At the age of four years Mamie moved with her parents to a homestead in the Togo valley until 1918 at which time the family moved to Ketchen, Sask. In 1920 they moved to their farm five miles northeast of Margo which would become their permanent home. Here Mamie attended Ross School where she also washed the floors in order to supplement the family income as money was scarce in those days and she also took care of her bedridden grandmother and did housework for neighbours. On June 27, 1936 Mamie married Rudolf Wallin of Lintlaw and they settled on a farm right near where Mamie grew up where she lived until December 2001 when she moved to Weneeda Park Lodge in Wadena but she still spent a fair amount of happy times out at the farm and many memorable winters in Calgary with her daughter and son-in-law. As her health deteriorated she moved to Pleasant View Care Home where she remained until her passing on January 19, 2011 at which time Mamie passed away peacefully at 3:20 a.m. with her family by her side. In her lifetime Mamie was very active in many areas of church work including a sixty-two year service as organist in her home congregations of Moe and Moe-Concordia Lutheran Church, president of her Ladies Aid group, teacher of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, District Stewardship secretary, was instrumental in getting Moe Lutheran Church as a Heritage site, and in addition hosted many delegates and musical groups for conventions and other church related functions. Over the years Mamie was an excellent cook (known for her lefse making), gardener, which also included her fruit trees, flowers, raspberries, and strawberries, and of course she always had enough chicken raised to feed everyone those delicious chicken dinners. She was a wonderful wife and mother for her three children for whom she was an excellent role model. Mamie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and crafts, and could always be seen reading her Bible, particularly the Psalms. Her compassionate and tender heart could be seen in all she did and her love of children was very evident. She had a good sense of humour right to the last about which the staff at the care home commented and her love of her Saviour was always noticed. Mamie was predeceased by Rudolf, her husband of sixty-seven years, her parents, Helmer and Annie Enge, brothers, Herman and Oscar Enge and little Henry in infancy, sisters, Mable, Opal, and Pearl, brothers-in-law, Malnord and Loverne Sandvold and Carl Johnson, sister- in-law, Sophie (Enge) Ziola, nieces, Shirley (Sandvold) Smale and Dianna Enge, and nephews, Orval and Barry Enge. She leaves to mourn, her daughter Marlene (Garth) of Calgary, Sons Darroll (Lynne) and Dale of Margo, six grandchildren Kevin (Nicole) Wagner, Charmaine Kopec, Dawn Wallin, Kathy (Jim) Moench, Sheldon (Tammy) Wallin, and Tracy (Scott) Ziola, and sixteen great-grandchildren in addition to many nieces and nephews. No one will be able to fill the void which her passing has left and blessed be her memory.
