Manuel Martins

Manuel Martins 1937 - 2012 CHICOPEE - Manuel Martins, 75, of Chicopee, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2012 at home. He was a retired machine operator at A. G. Spalding Co. of Chicopee. Manuel was born on February 12, 1937 in Portugal and has lived in the U.S. since 1969. He was the son of the late Antonio and Judite Martins. Manuel was a communicant of the former Holy Name Church and a member of the Chicopee Portugese American Club. He loved vegetable gardening and enjoyed sharing vegetables and plants with friends. In the fall, he enjoyed making wine from his grape arbor. Manuel was a life-long "Sportinguista" fan and enjoyed visiting and spending time with his grandchildren. Manuel is survived by his wife, Maria J. (Reis) Martins, a son, Fernando Martins and his wife, Joanne of Chicopee, two brothers, one sister, two grandchildren, Jason and Julia Martins, both of Chicopee and a sister-in-law, Delfina Madeira of Chicopee. A funeral home service will be held on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls. Calling hours are on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm.
