Marc Edward Martin

Marc Martin passed away peacefully on November 3, 2022 at age 92, in Issaquah Washington.

He was born on July 16, 1930 with the name he used for the first 40 years of his life, Clyde Lynn Bertagnole. He was raised in Salt Lake City and Ogden Utah with his two sisters. He served in the US Navy from 1947 to 1951. In 1953 he met Janice McIlrath on a blind date and they were married 6 months later. They moved to Seattle and both got jobs at the Boeing Company. They later moved to the eastside (Bellevue then Newcastle) where they raised two children, Marc and Diane.

In 1970 he changed the family name from Bertagnole to Martin out of concern for his children having a name that was difficult to pronounce and spell. At the same time he changed his own first and middle name to match his son, making him a "Sr" and his son a "Jr".

In 1978 he developed an interest in running, and he estimated that in the following decades he ran a total of 40,000 miles, including eighteen 26-mile marathons. Other interests included the stock market and do-it-yourself projects. After his children left for college, he and Janice went on regular trips to Hawaii, where he also ran in the Honolulu marathon.

In 1990 he retired from the Boeing Company after 35 years. In 2012 he and his wife moved to Timber Ridge Senior Living in Issaquah Washington. His wife passed away in 2020 after 66 years of marriage.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Bertagnole and Mary Tolman Bertagnole Stirk, and by his wife Janice Martin. He is survived by sisters Ruth Douglas and Veone Gale, children Marc Martin Jr and Diane Martin, and daughter in-law Tracy Weber.

The family would like to thank the staff at Briarwood at Timber Ridge for taking such good care of him in his final years.
